Alexa hummed to herself as she walked her mountain of a horse to the show jumping ring. It had been awhile since they had done some slow work with jumps, and Alexa could definitely feel it. Xodó was a mass of excitement, always running with his weight put full force into the bit. The Holsteiner was a lot of horse, all the time. Thankfully, Alexa wasn't bothered by it very much because she knew how to work with the more than half-ton gelding. Many became intimidated by him, which was never smart to do even if it was subconscious. Alexa had fortunately always been very composed, and the two got off swimmingly once they found their middle ground. She loved his spirit and boldness but lately, he had been a bit much; she knew it was partially the move and the fact that she had thrown him into the catch show so quickly. From what she saw, the boy who had drawn him had gotten way more than he had bargained for. So here they were, in the early morning cold.
Alexa had picked white breeches and a navy blue sports shirt with blue trimmings, paired with a charcoal gray bomber that had a few sponsors written up the arm from when she competed in Brazil. Xodó had his usual tack on, except for a matching charcoal saddle pad, with the brand, a sponsor for them as well, engraved on the side. Alexa, although she was definitely not one for frivolous things, couldn't help but indulge in buying multiple things for Xodó that matched outfits and items of riding clothes she had. It was one of her guilty pleasures. Xodó had too many saddle pads to count, as well as a couple eye-catching ear bonnets that he must have hated. She smiled fondly to herself as her chestnut nudged her, puffing warm breath on the back of her neck as he affectionately rested his head in between his shoulders, wiggling his top lip against the nape of her neck. Parar. She said sternly, but laughed and ducked her head away, smoothing her hand lovingly over his star and down the center of his face before reaching up and pulling on one of his ears gently. Once at the ring she mounted before walking in the gate and leg yielding to shut it, doing so quickly before she began warming up.
Once he had been warmed up and was both ready to go both mentally, as if he wasn't ready all the time, and physically she sent him over a couple verticals. The first was 3 feet but from there on they were always over, Xodó lifting and extending effortlessly over the jump. From that point on she chose a triple combination and a Swedish oxer for him. She made sure their strides were deliberate, and not hasty in the slightest bit. Alexa could feel his anticipation and excitement in every movement in his muscle, but today was a slow day, and she intended to keep it that way.
