Patrick headed into town. Since he'd started having problems with Snoop. who was sitting in his pocket, he had acquired another rat to keep his friend company. However, nature had decided to pull all the wrong cards out and the new young rat had failed to wake up one morning. So, here he was again, in search of another rodent friend for his rat.
Pulling into the parking lot behind the animal shelter, Patrick got out of the car and walked into the building. "Good morning." He greeted the woman behind the counter with a friendly smile. "As strange as it may sound, but I am in search of a rat." At the mention of the word, Snoop's head popped up from inside the pocket as she looked around, her nose working double time. "My friend here needs a friend of her own kind." He grinned when the woman said that yes, there indeed were a couple of rats and he followed her out to where the animals were housed and down to the cage where the two rats were nibbling away on some corn.
The psychology teacher stepped forward and read the information that was on their card. "Marco and Polo? Poor girls" He chuckled, knowing that if he did indeed take them home with him, he had no intention of changing their names. "What do you think, Snoop?" He held his hand up to the pocket so that the Dumbo Rat could jump onto his hand, and then moved her over to look through the plexiglass walls of the cage, which was more of a box then a cage. "She's completely healthy, may I put her in there with them?" When the woman nodded and slid the lid across, Patrick lowered Snoop into the cage and watched as the grey rat approached the other two, who cautiously huddled together.
After half an hour together, it was settled and with the two new rats in a travel box and Snoop back in his pocket - as she hated boxes - Patrick had paid the adoption fee for the rodents and was on his way back to the Academy. He was already making plans to extend Snoop's home to now accommodate three rats.
