The Personality
Personality:
Erik is a good, solid horse. In order to be a proper vaulting horse, it is important to for the horse to have a very even temperament. Erik is good about distinguishing when it is alright to be playful versus when it is more appropriate to be attentive. He is very responsive to Avery's commands, and there is a lot of trust built up between the two. When the duo is not practicing, the horse is rather playful. He likes to nip at clothing and hair and give kisses. He is also like a dog, in the fact that he will do anything for treats or food. Overall, he is a very pleasant horse, and perfect for vaulting.
Caution Around: Cats, little children
The History
Basic History:
Erik does not necessarily have the most unique or interesting history. He was just a regular horse bred from a reputable line of Percherons. He was born healthy and normal by all standards. He was purchased as a young colt by a woman named Lisa Williams, who was a horse trainer by career, but practiced vaulting as a weekend hobby. In her spare time, she taught young people the art of vaulting. By chance, Avery Grace happened to be one of her students. After teaching Avery for several years, Lisa's mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Lisa chose to sell her horses and move out of state to assume the role of caregiver to her mother. As a result, she presented Avery's parents with the opportunity to purchase Erik at a very fair price, so that both the girl and the horse could continue to learn vaulting. Erik was presented to Avery Grace as a birthday present when she turned 18. Their relationship took a short hiatus when Avery was moving all over Florida. During that time, Erik was leased to another vaulter at the barn where he was boarded. After they helped her to find a better job, Avery's parent had Erik shipped up North to Kentucky. They have been working together ever since.
