The Personality
Personality: Shelly is a solid, steady mare with "cow-sense". She does her best to please her rider, but enjoys more advanced work to make a good beginner's horse. She is often described as a big dog, following people around and always looking for a treat. She also has the odd habit of licking people's forearms. Not the hands or anywhere above the elbow, just the forearms. She befriends other horses easily enough, but prefers the company of dogs and cats to horses. She will tolerate other horses becoming lead mare as long as they don't start bullying her. In other words, she never throws the first punch.
Caution Around: Anything resembling hot wire
The History
Basic History: Shelly was born to a small rancher with a big sense of humor. They took good care of their horses and started training them early. Their main focus was to breed sturdy trail horses who could also excel in the Western Pleasure/Equitation rings. Every now and then they would get a foal that was simply born to work cattle. Shelly was one of those foals. She was sold as a yearling to a larger ranch that specialized in cutting. She blossomed well and switched owners once more at a competition. The new owner introduced her to reining and kept her until she was about 7 years old. Then she was sold to a rancher who needed a good horse to helped with the cows. Coincidentally, this rancher also raised Australian Shepherds, and Rebecca ended up walking away with a new dog AND a new horse.
