Cortney stood in front of her desk in the room she shared with Blythe, her blue eyes looking at the photo that lived on the shelf above the desk, blue eyes identical to her own looked out at her, only those blue eyes were on a girl five years younger than her seventeen years. She swallowed as she reached up and brushed her fingers against the silver frame. No matter how many years went past, today would never get any easier, wouldn't hurt any less than what it did right then.
Stepping away from the desk, she shed the cheer uniform she was wearing and slipped into a pair of jeans and shirt before she pulled her jacket on. She didn't feel in the mood to be cheerful, and the uniform just wasn't doing it for her right then. She knew that they would have a practice, it being Saturday and all, but she needed a little space right then. Scribbling a note that she was heading out to the trails - and offering no more information than that - she left the note on her room-mate's pillow, slipped her feet into her boots and headed for the door.
Walking straight past the barn, where her mare was possibly finishing off the haynet Cortney had given her with her breakfast, and continued down the path until she got to the Blue River Trails. Taking the easier of the two, she followed the river downstream, walking as close to the edge as she could safely get once she got to the river itself.

"I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete
Oh simple thing where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?"
Her voice filled the air as she sang, the song resonating with the painful loss she felt, her lower lip trembled a little as she held onto the trunk of a tree as she looked into the river - not that she had any intention of jumping, she was sad, not suicidal - and the song went on as she moved on along the trail again. I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete
Oh simple thing where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in

"Oh simple thing where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
And if you have a minute why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
Somewhere only we know?
Somewhere only we know?
Oh simple thing where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
And if you have a minute why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go?
So why don't we go?
Ah-ah-ah
Ah-ah-ah
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
Somewhere only we know?
Somewhere only we know?
Somewhere only we know? "
