Demeter typed away at the computer in her office. She had been up since before the sun, and had only managed a couple of hours sleep before that. It seemed that if anything could go wrong, today would be the day for it to all hit the fan. The young veterinarian loved her job, but there were some days when she wished that she could just curl up in bed and go to sleep.
The day had started with a colt a couple of farms over becoming cast in his stall and the owners not knowing how to help the young Thoroughbred - though the people who owned the dairy farm next door could have helped. Then she'd been called to help out with the care of a calf who had been breech - thankfully the farmer knew what to do and had managed to pull the calf out with his tractor. Next it had been a call out to a mare with a foal at foot who had got her leg caught in some loose wire - she hadn't managed to save the mare, as she had been bleeding out for a long time before the owners had even noticed she was down, fortunately the small filly was old enough that they could move her to slightly hard feed and top her up with a bottle if she would accept it, either way, the baby would be fine. Right when she thought it was time to return to the office, she had received another call of a horse and rider who'd had a spill on the trail - both horse and rider were fine, though the horse would need a couple of weeks of rest.
She was now busily moving the notes she had written down into the computer, making sure that everything was in order and in the correct files. She would phone the farmer with the calf later that night to make sure that the cow had recovered nicely.
She bit back a groan as there was a knock on the door.
