With a baseball bat in one hand, ball in his pocket and Basco's lead in the other, Mick walked with the canine to the field, where they were planning on playing a little ball. It had taken a while to convince the dog that balls were a lot of fun to play with, and mostly this was just by letting his Shepherd watch the other canine's on campus playing fetch.
It had turned out that Basco was quite the natural at catching a ball, and Mick had found that his throwing arm wasn't enough for the dog, so he'd taken to hitting the balls with a bat. He wasn't an out of the park kind of batter, so while it was great exercise for the dog, Basco wasn't having to run miles for the ball.
"Batter up!" Mick said with a smile as he unhooked the dog's lead and laughed as Basco danced backwards, his eyes glued on the hand that was now holding a ball. "Batter, batter, batter, swing!" The dog took off as Mick hit the ball, swing being their version of fetch.
