If there was one thing to say about Tommy, is the fact that he wasn't known for shirking his responsibilities, even during vacation when he could be sleeping in until midday - even when the barn manager had reminded him that it was his vacation - he was up at the crack of dawn helping to pitch in.
He was whistling as he mucked out the stalls of the horses who had been turned out after eating their breakfast, they would be brought back in again in a few hours, during the hottest part of the day, but even the ones who spent the night outside were brought in to be fed before being turned out again and even only being inside for an hour at the most, they all make a bit of a mess of their stalls - and the ones who remained inside at night year-round, their stalls needed more work than the others.
With the wheelbarrow in the doorway of the stall, angled so that it was half in the stall and half in the aisle so that he wasn't in the way of anyone walking past, and was forking and pitching the muck into the barrow. He knew he was possibly being a little less careful then he should be, but he'd be sweeping the aisle when he'd finished so he figured no harm, no foul, right?

Treat the earth well:
it was not given to you by your parents,
it was loaned to you by your children.
We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors,
we borrow it from our Children.
