Kari nodded, "Exactly." That was it, Paige had hit the nail on the head. People here were enthusiastic about their horses, and because of that, they didn't want to neglect the schoolwork (for the most part), because that, in turn, would jeopardize their riding. Kari couldn't blame them - It was a motivation for herself too, some days.
As Paige gave the mare's full name, Kari smiled, "Yeah, it is. But it is cute, too!" She paused, "Aren't quarter horses one of those where the name comes from the parentage?" She wasn't super familiar with the breed, although she was learning more and more about them.

The brunette ran a hand through her somewhat wayward hair, wondering as she did so what this change in scenery was likely to do for it. Not a lot, she imagined, which was a shame; wavy, she could deal with, but when she'd just washed it, she felt as though she was wandering around with a huge ball of candyfloss on her head, and it was very impractical indeed.
She shook her head. "Not always. They can be, but it's not a requirement."

Karina considered that, "Interesting." She patted Ella's neck, "Hanoverians, like Ella here, get the first letter of their name from their sire's name. The rest is up to whoever is registering them, too." She hadn't been involved in that process, because she would not have picked Ella's name. But Ella was only briefly hers, and nobody had asked for her opinion thirteen years ago.

The brunette nodded thoughtfully. "That's interesting!" she remarked brightly. "I don't know a lot about Hanoverians... they're draught horses, right?" Of course it was difficult to inhabit the horsey world without picking up bits and pieces about various breeds, but Hanoverians were far from being Paige's specialty, and the girl was always interested to learn more.

Kari shrugged, "Not really, anymore. They used to be, but after World War Two, they changed into more of a typical warmblood. They added some Thoroughbred blood and a few other breeds to help refine the breed." She grinned, "I don't know if Ella would want to pull much of anything, to be honest."
