Cora pressed her knuckles to the dashboard, wishing that she had insisted on driving the last leg of the trip. She was getting antsy, and wanted to be able to park on her own, rather than endure the torture that is letting someone else park while sitting back and watching. John and William had convinced her at the last moment to have William along for her ride back to Blue Ridge, and she'd finally given in to avoid looking as if she were being rude. John was obviously just trying, as always, to rekindle the relationship between her and William, even though it obviously wasn't practical or possible now. She wasn't going to leave her job, and she doubted that William would ever leave Magnolia Acres, since he was already head trainer. No one in their right mind would leave a job like like, as many a horseman would give anything to train for such a prestigious show stable.
So they had driven the trip together, switching off so that neither would become too tired while driving. Poppy now lay in the back, snoozing with her head between her front paws. As they made their way up the drive to Blue Ridge, Cora turned to William, "Can you pull up to the barn? I'll unload Sophie and you can go park." She gathered her things into an organized pile that she could easily unload later, and prepared to get out. When they reached the parking for the barns, she unbuckled and got out of the car, pausing before she closed the door again. "Could you please go bring Poppy to my apartment? I don't want to prolong the ride for her. Once she's in, we can finish settling Sophie in and you can come see Fin and Remi before we get dinner. Here." She shuffled through the glove compartment to find a map of Blue Ridge Riding Academy and pointed out the Brown Ribbon Apartments to him after handing him a key as well. "I'm Room 125, on the third floor. Poppy's food in the cabinet below the sink. Please fill her food and water bowl, and then meet me back down here."
When William agreed to this plan, Cora grinned and closed the door, meeting him behind the trailer to unload Sophie. After he had unlatched the door and opened it up, Cora stepped in and led the mare out, who walked uneasily because of her shipping wraps. "Thanks William, I'll see you in a few minutes." She spoke, hastily, wanting to get Sophie settled in as soon as possible. Turning her back to the man, she walked Sophie into Red Willow Barn, down to the stall that had been readied for the mare. Greeting Remi as she passed his stall, she glanced down at the kick bolts at the bottom of all the stall doors. That would keep Sophie from escaping, which apparently had been a problem in the past. Leading the young mare into her new stall, Cora unclipped the lead and pet the mare for a few moments before closing the stall door behind her to get the mare's equipment from the trailer.
