Personality>> Syrah was born with a great personality. She's affectionate towards her rider and always polite. She knows how to stand quietly on crossties, never throws a fuss about having her hooves picked up, and leads quietly. Sometimes she can be a little reluctant to start walking, but a slight tug is all the encouragement she needs. Syrah doesn't grab at treats and tends to be a dainty eater. She likes licking things and has a particular fondness for wood and fence rails. She's enthusiastic about jumping and really tries to understand what her rider is asking. Syrah can be a bit of a one rider horse and gets anxious in new environments without her handler. However, she is happy to work for anyone who earns her trust.

Basic History>> Syrah was born in California at a breeding farm known for turning out quality hunters. She was purchased by Julia before she was born with the hopes of turning out a champion hunter. Her sire is Popeye K. She spent the first year of her life in California being handled and learning basic ground manners. Even as a filly, her quiet and pleasant disposition was obvious, and she was quite happy to hop over a few ground poles when presented with the opportunity. As a yearling, she was sent to Pennsylvania to continue her training with Julia. It took a few months for her to settle down into the routine of barn life with cats, dogs, a couple small children, and loud noises. Julia was extremely careful to desensitize the filly to everything she would encounter around the barn. The filly went to shows with Julia's other horses for exposure. Syrah was known around the barn for her personality, good ground manners, and bomb-proofness. In preparation for the filly to be backed, Julia hired a trainer to help lounge and expose her to tack. Unfortunately, the trainer died of sudden cardiac arrest before much work could be done. Syrah was turned out for a few months while Julia dealt with the sudden loss. Eventually she turned to calling upon the people she knew in search of a new trainer. After a few weeks without success, Julia called up Gail and agreed to send Syrah to Kentucky and pay for the filly's training.
