Blue Ridge is a fictional town located deep in the heart of Kentucky. It is home to one of the most well known equestrian academies in the United States. "How about a trail ride, then? That's how I started here. Felix likes trail rides." The gelding snorted and turned around to nudge the girls. Probably begging for someone to take the muzzle off. But she wouldn't fall for that.
"I like your pet's name better. Zig is really cute." She replied. Felix bumped her extra hard but she pushed on his nose.
Scout nodded in agreement "Yeah that'll be good and it'll give the boys a chance to get to know each other" Scout chuckled as she was nudged by the horse and she patted his neck absently as she admired the horse in front of her "He is a nice boy, how did you get him?"
"I wasn't very original with Zig's name, he is very energetic and zigzags around the place." chuckling at the memory of when the bird had started flying and would purposely bump into things as he fluttered around her bedroom.

"Thank you! He was a gift from my father. He's a little hard to handle sometimes but my dad knew I could take care of him. How did you get a nice horse like Finn?" She looked down the aisle at the draft-type horse. He was a bit shorter than her brother's draft cross, but he reminded her of the mare.
She turned to look down the aisle where Finn would be snoozing in, her smile soft at the memory and absently shrugged her shoulders in explanation "My family own an animal shelter and Finn's old owner was a friend of my grandpa's so when she felt she was getting too old to care for him right she gave him to us. I must have been nine years old when grandpa put me in charge of looking after him."
"He was trained in endurance when he came to us and he used to take part in competitions all over the country and when I got better at riding it became kinda like a tradition to do it but I wanted us to try something new with show jumping and cross country, hopefully we'll do good."

She smiled at the story. "My mom left a few horses for my dad and my siblings and I. I'm from a farm in New York that my parents founded. We have some rescue horses there, too, and most of our pets are rescues. It's kind of a big deal for my dad." Probably because it had been a big deal for her mother.
"Anyway, I'd be really happy to help you in jumping. We just started in cross country, though, so I won't be much help there."
Scout listened intently to the girl's story "That sounds like a cool place to live, how many siblings do you have? I'm an only child myself so it's just me and my parents." Scout had always wondered what life would be like if her parents had had another child but her parents seemed happy with just having Scout. Looking back on it, it did seem quite lonely being the only child but working with her family at the shelter made it easier to deal with.
She smiled grateful for the offer "That would be really nice of you, thank you and if you need any help with...well anything I can try to help you out."

"I have an older brother, Nick, and a twin brother, Chase. Plus there's my dad. I'm the only girl!" She giggled. "I can't imagine life without my brothers. Nicky has always looked after us, it's almost like having a second father!" She couldn't help but giggle again, even though she found herself missing her brother. She quickly turned her attention back to Scout.
"Of course! I always like to help wherever I can."
"I take it your twin brother lives at Blue Ridge too? she asked genuinely curious and hoping she could get a chance to meet new friends. The girl in front of her seemed so friendly and nice so Scout hoped her that the girls brother would be just as easy to get along with.
She wandered over to the barn doors as she talked to Andrea, thinking about what she was going to do to make herself feel more at home and decided to phone her parents when she got to the dorm to tell them about her new encounter.

She smiled, but rolled her eyes. "Yeah, he's here, too. He's kind of a grouch, though. His name's Chase. He's got one blue eye and one green eye, so you'll know him if you see him. Oh, and a big friesian mare, too." She sighed. "He's polite and all, but sometimes I worry. He doesn't like new people so he hardly has any real friends." Maybe she shouldn't have said that, but it was already said, and besides, Scout seemed like the kind of person who would meet that with compassion. Or, at the very least, she didn't seem like she'd be mean about it.
Scout nodded her head at the description, visualising it in her head "I'll keep my eye out for him but he doesn't sound that bad to me" truthfully Scout could sometimes come off as quite as quite snappy and intimidating to some people but people usually got used to it if they took the chance to hang around her more and that was what she thought about the girl's brother.
"I wouldn't mind getting a chance to meet him sometime, you know, give him a chance to be graced with the presence of Scout Quinn." she finished jokingly her eyebrow raised in jest.

She shrugged. "He's alright. As long as you're nice, he'll be nice. But I guess most people are like that, anyway." Of course she loved her brother very much, but she wasn't so great at showing it. Especially not when he was around.
Scout's mock snobbishness made her grin. "He should count himself lucky if you do!" she giggled.
Scout smirked and continued her joking tone "Damn right he should be!" she leaned on the doors to the building her leg slightly folded over each other. Her body rocked slightly as she spoke "I should probably be heading back I left quite a mess behind in my dorm so I should probably fix it before my room mate sees it. It was really nice talking to you and I'll be happy to hang out with sometime, just let me now."
She took a few steps out of the barn but didn't want to leave the girl without her getting a chance to answer back.

Andrea laughed, finally feeling completely at ease. Meeting Scout was a good sign. It meant that she was going to at least have one good friend at Blue Ridge. "Oh, okay. Well, we'll be in touch for sure!" She waved as Scout took a few steps out of the barn. "I'll see you in art!" She was still grinning like a dummy, but she was a happy kid.
