Date of Birth>> 08/10/2003; 15
Staff or Student>> Student

Gender>> Male

Face Claim>> Lucas Till
Personality>> Friendly and outgoing, Harlan is an extroverted individual. Making friends comes easily to him as he has an upbeat and infectious personality. Generally, Harlan can get along with anybody. He's not one to sweat the little things. He takes a carefree and chill approach to life. However, don't be fooled into thinking he's a lazy pushover.
When it comes to the things he cares about, Harlan is very determined and can be very vocal as well. He is a hard worker and he has a healthy amount of ambition, so he won't let others hinder him from accomplishing his dreams. He can be quite opinionated at times as well. Now he won't go starting arguments, but he's not one to back down from them either. This is especially true when it comes to the people he cares about. As the eldest of six, Harlan can be a bit over protective but he'll stand by his family no matter what. This also extends to his friends. If he considers you a friend, you can count on him to have your back.
Harlan is a good ol' country boy through and through. There's a small town charm about him, which is only amplified by the Texas twang with which he speaks. And he's no stranger to playing it up a little when it benefits him. Southern hospitality was drilled into him from a young age, so please, thank you, sir, and ma'am are all staples in his vocabulary. In contrast to his polite demeanor and mind for manners, Harlan can sometimes be crude and he definitely has a bit of a potty mouth. He blames it on his extensive time spent hanging out with his grandfather who curses like a sailor. Overall, Harlan is a bit rough around the edges but he's a good guy.

-Harlan once snuck out of the house to party with his friends and almost got in a car accident. His friend's truck got a little beat up but they managed to cover it up and to this day, their parents are none the wiser.
Appearance>> Harlan is a pretty attractive young man. It seems as if he won the genetic lottery as he inherited both of his parents best physical traits. He's got his mother's big blue eyes, her dirty blonde hair, and one of her dimples. He got his height, strong jawline, and bright smile from his dad. Harlan stands at 5'10" (~1.7m) and weighs about 155 pounds (~70kg). He has a lean and athletic physique but is a bit on the skinny side. This'll change with age as he is still growing. It's unlikely that he'll get much taller but he still has some filling out to do.
When it comes to apparel, Harlan dresses just about how you'd expect from a cowboy. There's a lot of denim and button ups in his wardrobe, and a good collection of cowboy boots and hats for him to choose from. Aside from the standard western wear, he generally dresses in a very casual and comfortable way. Harlan prefers to wear something like a t-shirt and jeans over more flashy options. However, he's no slouch when it comes to dressing nicely. His show clothes are pretty fancy, and he cleans up well on the few occasions where he might wear a suit or tux.
Markings>> Faded snakebite scar on his leg, minor scars here and there, Dimple on his left cheek
Medical History>> Like any kid, Harlan acquired many bumps and bruises growing up. This was amplified by the fact that he grew up riding horses and roping cattle. He's had a handful of sprained wrists and ankles, dislocated his right shoulder after getting dragged by an ornery cow, and he's broken a finger or two. Oh, there was also the time his cousin shot him with a BB gun. Not to mention the couple of times he almost got trampled by 1,000+ pound animals. However, the most life threatening situation he's even been in was when he got bit by a rattlesnake at the age of ten. Luckily for Harlan, he's fully recovered from all these mishaps and is relatively unscathed.
Full History>> Harlan was born and raised in central Texas, and he is the eldest of six children. As the firstborn, he is technically in line to inherit the family business. His parents, John and Susan Duke, own and operate a cattle and horse ranch. The ranch has been in the Duke family for generations.
The Dukes are quite a rich and influential family in Texas. Their family tree is full of businessmen, lawyers, military men, and law enforcement. They even have their hands in politics. In true Texas fashion, the family earned it's wealth through cattle and oil and has diversified over the years. In spite of his family's wealth and prestige, they live a pretty down to earth lifestyle.
Harlan and his siblings were raised to value hard work instead of looking for handouts. This means they all had to pull their weight. From a very young age, Harlan has been around horses while working on the family ranch. It was only natural that he would gain a passion for the beautiful creatures. Through working on the ranch, Harlan was instilled with a love for western riding. He knew that he wanted to be listed among the best in the world of rodeo.
The rodeo lifestyle is in his veins. His father was a pretty famous bull rider and before that, his grandfather was a bull rider and a bronc rider as well. Also, both of his grandmothers were barrel racers. It only made sense that Harlan would take an interest in performing in western events. He started young with mutton busting and graduated from there as he got older. Throughout the years, he's competed in numerous rodeos. He's done team roping, team penning, pole bending, reining, and even some miniature bull riding. More recently, he's been focusing on roping and reining.
When Harlan first learned about Blue Ridge Riding Academy, he was a bit on the fence as to whether he wanted to attend the school or not. The idea of a school all about horse riding seemed pretty great. He'd get to have a greater focus on his horsemanship than at a regular high school and the whole living on campus aspect would be neat too. However, there would be a lot he had to leave behind. The school is so far away from his home, family, and friends so he'd kind of have to start all over. His parents were also a bit worried about one of their children being so far from home. After a lot of contemplation and discussion with his parents, Harlan decided that he did want to attend the academy. It was a great opportunity that he couldn't pass up, so Harlan has come to Blue Ridge hoping to find new friends, make new memories, and hopefully acquire new skills as well.
