The Basics
Show Name: In A Mellow Tone
Barn Name: Mel / Melody
Age: 8 years old (d.o.b: 2005)

The Appearance
Coat Color: Chestnut with white socks on both front legs and a thin strip down her face.
Stable Color: Navy Blue
Height: 16 hands even.
The Personality
Personality: Naturally she is willing to try what her rider/handler asks of her, but her behavior becomes very radical and difficult to control when she loses confidence in herself or her rider/handler. She knows the whole range of 'disobediences': backing up uncontrollably, taking off/lunging forward/scooting, rearing, bucking, ect. When she has confidence and is relaxed, however, she is very playful and will bore very easily. She loves to tackle a challenge, especially dressage or flatwork challenges. On the ground she is generally sweet and affectionate, and loves a thorough grooming. In fact, she'll stand like a princess for hours if she's getting pampered.
Caution Around: Be careful if Mel is not familiar with her handler. Though most of the time she'll be fine, if a she becomes majorly suprised or is put in a jarring situation she could start acting out and become difficult to handle. Though these instances are rare, be prepared for anyhing if she becomes frightened or unsure. Other than this uncertainty/insecurity, she has no specific phobias.
The History
Basic History: Mel is a well-socialized mare whose training on and before the track was generally good. She raced for two years before taking a year off to be a broodmare. Once her foal was weaned, her owner looked for a home outside of the racing world for Mel. Her post-track training has been done only by Cassidy, who was only 13, however it was heavily monitored and assisted by a very classical trainer who is famliar with restarting OTTBs for new careers. She understands Cassidy's body language very well due to ground work and has been encouraged to try new things and have confidence in herself. She is a solid Training Level dressage horse coming to Blue RIdge and has competed at Novice-level at a Horse Trial with Cassidy with success. Over fences in the ring Mel is schooling over 3'3" consistently and has begun to become very steady in her First-Level dressage work as well. Though her only show was that single horse trial, Mel has been exposed to many off-farm situations and performs well in most cases.
