The Personality
Personality: Shadow is an intelligent mare, and she needs an equally intelligent handler as well as challenging opportunities so she doesn’t become lax and loose her edge. While she, like her rider, is not the most athletic of beings, she does her best and rarely complains. A little of her intelligence might be attributed to the longstanding relationship between her and her rider, as they have learned the habits of each other and Shadow generally knows what Sandie’s up to. While this isn’t completely accurate, she knows enough to be comfortable and, and because of this doesn’t like other people riding her, because she doesn’t know what they’ll do.
Caution Around: Sensitive mouth, doesn't like strangers riding her.
The History
Basic History: At least oneShadow was born on the Lowells’ ranch, Fifty Suns, and met Sandie was she was just a little foal. During Sandie’s extremely frequent visits, both grew to spend more and more time in each others company. When Shadow turned a year old, David Lowell started to teach his niece how to care for the young filly specifically, and their bond grew stronger as Shadow, less protected by her dam’s protective fussings, was fed apples and the occasional sugar cube as treats for good behavior during cleaning. This sort of positive reinforcement made it easy for Sandie, once Shadow was riding age, to train her initially as a simple riding horse, then later as a show jumper, and eventually in basic dressage. Sandie’s instructions are still far too pronounced for the pair to advance farther, so a great deal of work is needed on both the horse’s part and the rider’s.
