Personality>> The first impression people get upon meeting Isaac Dixon is that of a friendly, joking, fun-loving man, which he is. He’s also much, much more, though. When it comes to his work he’s strict, energetic, and always encourages people or students to do their best, to push themselves past their limits, and to always try harder. For those students who are willing to try as he asks, he’s a favored teacher. For those who don’t care or never try, he can become their worst nightmare. Humiliation is, according to Isaac, one of the best forms of punishment and his personal favorite way to discipline a person is by the old military way of the ‘Dying Cockroach’, an exercise in humiliation that was favored by his father, as it not only teaches humbleness, but can also be fun if the person doing it lets it be.
Isaac enjoys a good joke now and then and has been on the butt end of jokes quite often with friends and family. He takes things in stride and doesn’t let much get him down. His philosophy in life is that if he gets down, he’ll only drag someone else down with him and that’s not something he’s going to allow himself to do. At times he can get really quiet and introverted, but those times are few and far in-between... Most of the time he’s just your average friendly and fun-loving man.
Likes>> Exploring new places, exercising, the beach, his children from his first marriage (Loretta ‘Lori’ Dixon, Zachary ‘Zak’ Dixon [r.i.p.], and William ‘Willie’ Dixon), his children from his second marriage (Angela ‘Angie’ Dixon and Samantha ‘Sammy’ Dixon), his illegitimate daughter (Darcy Cole), catfish, wine, blackberries, cats, dogs, weight-lifting, coaching, kids, physical education
Dislikes>> Small spaces, office cubicles, Kawasaki anything, caviar, Chevrolet, reality television, Biblical names, his ex-wife Sharon, his ex-wife Julia, faulty equipment, bad police work
Fears>> Isaac’s biggest fear is his legitimate children finding out about their illegitimate half-sister before he decides to tell them and hating him for keeping such a huge secret. He’s also got a phobia of being stuck inside a small, enclosed space as he got locked inside a closet for several hours when he was a child and has had a healthy fear of such a thing happening again since.
Hopes>> To one day be ab le to be a proper father to all of his children, to fall in love and get married again
Secrets>> He has an illegitimate child with an African American woman. The child is a daughter named Darcy Cole and she is almost eight years old. Isaac keeps in contact with the girl via letters and the occasional phone call and neither of his ex-wives nor his legitimate children knows anything about her. Isaac also buried his eldest son from his first marriage several years ago. His son Zachary was found dead inside his car in the parking lot of a grocery store, shot twice in the chest. It was later revealed that the nineteen-year-old had fell in with the wrong crowd, owed the wrong people money, and couldn’t pay up in cash so paid up with his life.
It’s the way I’m feeling I just can’t deny
Appearance>> Isaac takes a lot after his own father, standing tall and proud of his heritage. His license says that he’s roughly six feet, three inches tall and weighs just over two-hundred pounds. He’s at the gym a lot, so his body is in great shape with well-defined muscle-tone.
His complexion is average and his eyes are an odd greenish-brown color, sort of like the color of muddy water at times, yet in the right light the color can appear as clear green. He keeps his hair on the shorter side, not extremely close cropped, but not long either, and constantly has a bit of jaw and mustache stubble. His personal opinion of it is that a bit of stubble makes the man. Gives him a ‘rouge’ appearance… Truth is, Isaac hasn’t been clean shaven since he was twenty.
As far as clothing goes, he’s normally found in comfortable jeans and shirts. Nothing too fancy. For work, since he’s a gym teacher, he wears sweats or knee-length shorts and singlets, depending on how cold it is and/or how much physical work he intends on doing. He does get rather dressed up to go out on dates, wearing nicer slacks and button-up shirts, but the only times he’s ever worn a suit and tie has been on his two wedding days.
Markings>> Isaac has scarring around his right knee from having to have knee surgery over a decade ago after a fight with a prison inmate left him with a busted kneecap. He does have two ear piercings that he got as a teenager, but it has been years since he’s worn any type of piercing. Isaac also has a cross tattoo as a remembrance of his son inked on his left shoulderblade.
But I’ve gotta let it go
Medical History>> Isaac suffered from the Chicken Pox when he was seven years old. At ten he broke two ribs after falling from a horse during a riding lesson. When his first wife was in labor, he was admitted to the hospital for twenty-four hour observation after passing out when the nurse informed him that his wife had given birth to twins. At twenty-seven, he had surgery on his knee after a fight left him with a busted kneecap.
Criminal History>> The only time Isaac has ever been in trouble with the law was when he was seventeen and got a parking ticket for parking in a loading zone. He paid the ticket and hasn’t had a problem since then.
Full History>> Born into a military family in Huntsville, Alabama, Isaac James Dixon entered the world on a cold December day, right as the year turned over and started anew. Being born into such a family was both a blessing and a curse, as he never got to see his father a whole lot what with the man being in active-duty military. Isaac grew up with just his mother as his main parental figure. His father wasn’t a constant in his life until he turned fifteen, though his father had a major influence in his early life.
From the time he was a young babe held in his mother’s arms, Isaac heard stories about the man he called ‘father’. He only saw the man a few times in his early life, but each time it was with excitement and he knew that the older, worn and tough man who held him so lovingly was, in fact, his protector.
It was his father who gave him the nickname ‘Jack Rio’, a spin-off of his middle name ‘James’. The nickname stuck and was used quite often during his youth, but slowly fell out of practice during his teenage years.
At three years old, Isaac’s mother enrolled him into preschool, where he stayed an active student until turning five, upon which time he was sent to military school, as his father had dreams and hopes of his son following in the family tradition and going into some sort of military career.
Military school was intense. It was a day school at first and Isaac enjoyed the classes, especially the physical education classes. He got to come home every afternoon and be with his mother, and, on occasion, his father whenever the man was home for a few weeks. During the times his father was home, Isaac thrived on his attention. During those few and far in-between visits, Isaac spent all his time with his father, from sun-up to sun-down. His father instilled in him from an early age that physical exercise and caring for yourself mentally, emotionally, and physically was of utmost importance. Isaac kept those values all during his youth and even to this day lives by those values.
When he was six, Isaac managed to get himself locked inside a hall closet at his home while his mother was outside gardening. He wasn’t found for several hours and was found curled into a ball, shaking like a leaf. Since that day he’s been a bit claustrophobic of small, enclosed spaces and has never put himself in a situation like that again. Given a choice, Isaac would rather use dressers over closets; take stairs instead of elevators, etc…
The very next year he came down with the chicken pox and was sick and out of school for several days. After he got better, he was surprised with horseback-riding lessons, a surprise gift from his father, who was stationed in Japan at the time and wired money to the family every month.
Isaac took to horseback-riding like a fish takes to water. The military suburb where he and his mother lived was lucky enough to have their own boarding stable, where several children from other military families took lessons. Isaac was pleasantly surprised to be able to join them and was accepted quite easily, as he took lessons after school and on the weekends. The horse he took his lessons on was a big chestnut Draft cross mare and he fell in love with riding thanks to the mare. Even when he fell off and broke two ribs at ten years old, he was eager to get back on and didn’t let it faze him at all. Between school and riding lessons, Isaac was kept quite busy during his early childhood.
The year he graduated from elementary school was the year his father was able to come home for six months before going back to Japan. During those six months Isaac spent as much time as possible with the man and really got to know him as ‘father’, not just as ‘the man I call father because mother wants me to’. He was understandably upset when the man had to leave again, but his first year of middle school was looming just around the corner and he had to get ready and say his goodbyes, as starting in middle school, he would be going to a military boarding academy in another county.
Starting school in another county, away from all that was familiar to him, was scary, but also exciting. Isaac got through it pretty well. He got to visit home during the holidays and received several letters from friends and family… and the academy owned horses, something Isaac was eternally grateful for. During his middle school years he joined the riding team and competed against other schools during the year, winning some and losing some. It was also during this time that he got his ear pierced twice, though after graduating he never wore the piercings again.
When he was fifteen his father came home permanently, being honorably discharged for something Isaac never got the full details of. The man came home on a cane, though, and was never quite the same as he had been when Isaac was a child. He constantly encouraged his son to do the best he could and was a huge advocate of physical fitness.
At seventeen, Isaac got his first and last ticket. After accidentally parking in a loading zone, he received a simple parking ticket and had his car towed. His parents, upon finding out, made him pay for it himself. He took care to never get into trouble like that again, as he had hopes of graduating high school and going into a career on the police force.
Immediately after graduating school, Isaac married his high-school sweetheart Sharon Cooke and applied to join the police force. He was accepted and sent through the police academy, during which time his wife became pregnant. At nineteen he became the father of twins Loretta and Zachary Dixon. When it was revealed to him that his wife had had twins, he passed out in the hospital and was actually admitted for observation.
Life as a young parent and just starting out in the police force was hard work. Money was tight and tempers were coiled, but Isaac and Sharon made in through and he rose through the ranks in the police force. When the twins were five, Isaac became a father again, with his wife having another son, William. Isaac was twenty-four.
Two years later, during a routine patrol of the prison where he worked, Isaac was tasked with breaking up an inmate fight, during which his kneecap was busted by a particularly vicious kick. He was hospitalized and later required surgery to reconstruct the knee. Upon being released and sent home, within just a few months he and his wife agreed that the fire in their marriage had gone out around the same time their youngest son was born. They stuck it out for several additional months, but in the end even marriage counseling couldn’t save their marriage and they divorced. Isaac got visitation rights to his children, being out of work and on unemployment due to his knee having to heal.
When he finally went back to work, Isaac was put on desk duty, or ‘secretary duty’, as he and several other officers had jokingly referred to it. It was during this time that he met and made good friends with an office secretary named Julia Kensington. Months passed and the two grew closer together, officially dating. A year and a half later, they were married and Julia was expecting. Isaac was almost thirty. A mere month after his second wife gave birth to their first daughter Angela, Isaac was contacted by his mother to come home for a while due to his father being hospitalized. He immediately quit his job and left for home, leaving an understanding wife and newborn behind, as he didn’t want to uproot them from their home.
Back in his childhood home, Isaac found his father in a bad state and his mother frail like he’d never seen. Being their only child, it fell to him to care for his parents, and for two years he commuted back and forth from his wife and daughter to his parents. During those two years his wife Julia had another daughter, Samantha, and slowly but surely Isaac began pulling away from his second family. He applied to and got into college again, taking night courses he majored in physical fitness and education.
His separation from his family was due to a woman. Back home, he’d found that he was irresistibly attracted to an African American woman whom he’d attended elementary school with. Shaniqua Cole had been a childhood friend and upon moving back to care for his parents, they found that they had a lot in common. A few late night talks turned into more, and before he knew it, she informed him that she was expecting. At first, Isaac didn’t think it was his child, as she had a boyfriend and they had only been together that way once, but when the little girl was born, there was no doubt she was mixed…
By that time, Isaac’s father had recovered enough that Isaac didn’t have to stay constantly in Huntsville, and he decided to move back to his home. Back to his wife Julia and his daughter’s Angie and Sammy, the latter of whom didn’t recognize him. Even back home and mostly happy, with a new job as a physical fitness trainer, Isaac wasn’t exactly content. Not knowing he’d left another daughter in another county. Over the years, Isaac kept Darcy a secret from both his kids from his first marriage and his second family, and even his own parents. He did, however, have the decency to keep in contact with the girl. Isaac loved all his children. However, his distance from his second family had taken its toll, and his second marriage fell apart within three years.
Just last year Isaac was called out of work by the local police force, the same force he’d once worked on. At the station he was informed that his eldest son Zachary had been found shot and dead inside his own vehicle in the parking lot of a local grocer. Isaac was devastated. Later investigation revealed that Zak had fell in with the wrong crowd and had been into drugs and crime. Upon not being able to pay off a guy, he’d paid with his life.
Isaac, devastated from both his marriage falling apart and his son’s murder, began looking to get out of Alabama. He found out about Blue Ridge and, still being an avid horseback-rider when he was able to get to the stable, he began looking in on what they needed. The need for a physical education teacher caught his eye and he applied, got the job, and left to Kentucky after getting a tattoo in remembrance of his son.
We found love in a hopeless place
