Shine a light through an open door
Full Name>>River David Alston
Nicknames>>Davy…..but only his mom gets to call him that.
Age>> July 14th ; 17 (He was held back a year due to missing a large amount of school during a move, so he’s only a junior)
Staff or Student>>N/A
House>> Yellow Ribbon
Gender>> Male
Sexuality>> Heterosexual
Face Claim>> Anthony White
Turn away 'cause I need you more
Personality>> It's not hard to get along with River, Especially with his big-brother like complex and natural gift for making friends quickly. In fact, he’d probably try to befriend anyone from a fellow student, to the mail-man he’s only seen in passing. He can be a real positive mentor to those who allow him to take them under his wing and has a knack for seeing people’s hidden feelings as well as reassuring, supporting and even comforting people who need it while still respecting personal boundaries.
He’s a trustworthy, cheeky and playful young man who tries not to take life too seriously when he can. Though, if necessary, he can quickly turn to mature and level headedness in a time of need.
River’s the exact definition of ‘Social Butterfly’. He has a lot of unrefined potential as a leader and loves to meet new people as well as spending time in busy public places.
However, even though River can be the mentor in shining armor to others, he has the bad habit of allowing people to walk all over him. He can spot others being used or bullied from a mile-away, but when it comes to his own antagonists he tends to turn a blind eye and endure, rather than sticking up for himself.
There are times when River can get himself in way over his head with some situations. His desire to be involved and active has left him worn thin and forgetting to take care of himself first more than once before. And sometimes he forgets to listen to his own advice.
Likes>>
+ Gray-blue is his favorite color

Dislikes>>
- He thinks beans are gross
- River gets really sick of the whole “Western is better than English” or vise versa arguments
- Can’t stand those cheesy boy bands
- Hates it when people allow their dating lives to become more important than things like friends, family, work and grades
- Who decided that neon orange needed to be a color?
- Abusing others just because you don’t like yourself is wrong, no matter what way you look at it2
Fears>>
- River has an irrational fear of clowns, much to his humiliation.
- Even though he’s been told repeatedly, time and time again, that the accident that resulted in the death of his horse Opal wasn’t his fault, he still blames himself. Leaving a part of him wary of getting overly attached to another horse in fear of messing up again. It’s taken a lot of effort to get him back in the saddle.
- And though it’s not really a fear, he’s also paranoid about swimming in natural bodies of water, thanks to an unfortunate run in with an angry juvenile alligator while swimming in a lake as a small child.
Hopes>>
+ River’s dream is to one day be able to open a therapeutic equine center for both humans, and horses in need of some T.L.C.
+ He’s a longtime track and field nut.
+ His equestrian sport of choice is Cross Country.
Secrets>> Despite his optimistic disposition and cheerful appearance, River suffered through a bad bout of deep depression two years back after the loss of his mare, Opal. He tried to commit suicide in that span, but thankfully a watchful older sister found him in time and was able to get him emergency medical help. He doesn’t openly speak about it and has kept it a well-guarded secret from anyone outside his immediate family.
It’s the way I’m feeling I just can’t deny
Appearance>> River carries himself with confidence and stands at about 5’7. He has a bright and almost contagious smile, a lean, fit build from partaking in track and field since his first year of Jr. High and is biracial, giving him a light brown skin tone, his Dad’s pouty lips and square jaw, and his Mom’s light hazel eyes.
When allowed to grow out, his hair takes the form of a poofy mass of dark, springy curls. So to keep it neat and tidy he chooses to have it buzzed short.
Clothing wise, River definitely falls under the category of “prep”. He favors things like button downs, polo shirts, v-neck sweaters, cardigans, leather belts, flat front chinos, shorts and simple canvas sneakers.
Markings>> River wears stud earrings and has a few, faded, puncture like scars on his left foot.
But I’ve gotta let it go

Alligator “attack”, required cleaning – Age 4
Chickenpox – Age 8
Sledding accident, needed stitches – Age 11
Cross Country accident, resulted in two bruised ribs and broken wrist – Age 15

Criminal History>> River has a record clean as a whistle.
Full History>> With a lawyer father, a heart surgeon mother, one older sister attending Yale for Engineering Sciences, and another taking part in an internship for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, River has a lot to aspire for and a family reputation to uphold. He was born in Florida and spent most of his early childhood there enrolled in a private school, until his family uprooted from their beach-side home and moved to a classic old house on a quiet street in Connecticut at the age of twelve. Giving his sisters the chance to be closer to their collage of choice, and his father a shot at a better job as an Employment Lawyer.
He didn’t support the move at first…in fact, he really hated it. The thought of moving to a place he had never even visited and knew nothing about. Though his complaints didn’t last for too long, especially after his parents chose buy him his first horse, a little gray Arabian mare named Opal, and enroll him in daily afterschool English riding and Cross Country lessons.
He’d always loved horses, and even still has an extensive Breyer collection and walls plastered with equine related posters and magazine clippings he’s accumulated over the years back in his bedroom at home. But until the move he had never really been able to indulge in his passion and learn to ride. He took to it like a duckling to water.
Though sadly at the age of 15, he was forced to make the choice of putting Opal down during a CC event after the mare hesitated and tripped at a fence, causing a bad compound fracture in her front right leg. Even though River knew that it was indeed an honest accident and that even if they had been able to save Opal, her quality of life would have been terrible, losing her still put him in a deep depression that, until now, has left him wanting nothing to do with a living horse and seriously doubting his ability and choices as a rider. Thinking that maybe if he had held her back and not encouraged her to make the jump, that the accident wouldn’t have happened.
Now, almost two years after it happened, and with a great deal of pushing and encouragement from his family, River feels that he’s ready to move on with his life and try to get back to doing what he loves most.
We found love in a hopeless place
