Full History>> Cora grew up in a small household in Virginia, with no equestrian background whatsoever. She would walk to her school every day, which was only a little while away, passing by an elite show barn whose property sat between her private, all girls school and her house. Her family was not wealthy, but had enough, and cared deeply for their daughter’s education, so they sent her to the school. Cora was fascinated by the lovely horses she passed each day, and would occasionally stop at the pasture than bordered the road she walked on to pet the horses and give them half of the apple she brought for lunch each day. One day, when she was 13, a stable hand found her after school sitting on the fence, and brought her back to the barn manager. At first, the man was very angry with her, but she somehow explained her love for the horses and how she hadn’t been able to take riding lessons. After putting her on their oldest horse to see what potential she had, the manager employed Cora as a working student. She would get riding lessons as her pay, and became very good.
Once she got older, she was promoted and began to be paid, though she still got to ride. Cora saved her money, and worked another job, and eventually started showing. She was very successful and worked her way to the top on one of the barn’s horses, who she had been assigned to work with, as well as others who she competed with occasionally. Eventually, she bought him once she got enough money and continued to show, training at the barn. She taught lessons to younger children at the barn, working there full time now. She had earned quite a bit of money from her successful showing and job at the show barn and was now very well off. Her future was promising, and she was in a relationship with her trainer’s son, who was her age, and she’d grown up with.
Then, at the most important show of her career, she choked, and at the second to last fence of her final course, she choked and made a ridiculous mistake, falling and breaking her knee cap. She recovered afterwards in under a year, but she was convinced that her career was ruined, and decided to stop competing. She made a deal with her trainer to keep working at her barn as a trainer, and he would teach her what she needed to know to be a good trainer. She continued to board her horse there and worked as another trainer for the barn. She continued to train her horse Finegal, who she competed with for all of those years, but also bought another horse to use specifically for hunters, and she eventually aspired to start competing again. It was expected that she and her trainer’s son would marry, but when an opportunity to train at Blue Ridge Riding Academy came along, it fell apart.
Cora knew that if she wanted to build up her career as a trainer she would have to keep moving up, and Blue Ridge seemed the ideal place to do it. She decided to take the job, and her boyfriend became angry that she was leaving their barn, though her trainer understood. They broke off the relationship, knowing that it was for the best, though Cora misses him immensely. Cora hopes that her new career at Blue Ridge will be worth it completely, and looks forward to her new life.

Pet Name>> Poppy
Registered Name>> Poppy Fields Of Oz
Age>> 2 years
Species>> Canine
Breed>> Greyhound
Registry>> National Greyhound Association
Personality>> Poppy is a sweet girl, who just loves attention. She’s content to spend her days laying around, getting pet and playing with her plush toys. When she’s with Cora in the apartment, she follows her from room to room, constantly at her side. Poppy’s favorite toy is a little stuffed hedgehog, which she likes to keep with her, and doesn’t tear apart. She’s very careful with it, and reserves chewing for her bones and squeaky toys. She adores sitting on beds, couches, and her own dog bed. After being used to living in a kennel, she’s adapted well to life with Cora and has taken to loving all her luxuries. Poppy is closest to Cora, and not as friendly around other people until she gets to know them, and can appear to be rather aloof in her calm and reserved ways. Poppy is usually very quiet, and will only howl if she’s very unhappy about something. She is also known to collect odd household items and bring them back to her bed, so Cora is now careful to keep valuables out of her reach. She loves her daily walks, and Cora takes her out for a sprint a couple times a week at the small animal clinic and football field. Poppy will usually take a couple sprints across the area before returning to Cora, ready to return to her bed and relax.
History>> Poppy was born at the farm of a greyhound breeder in Florida. At the age of three months, she received her ear tattoo and was registered in the National Greyhound Association. She began training for racing at one year old. She was then sold to a racing kennel and began racing at 18 months of age. Poppy only raced for 6 months, and was retired at 2 years, since she was not very successful on the racetrack. Once she’d stopped racing, she was sent to a greyhound adoption agency and was immediately adopted by Cora, spending nearly no time there. She is now owned by Cora, and is adapting to her retired life at Blue Ridge Riding Academy.
