Shine a light through an open door
Full Name>>Juliet Garnet Ferris
Nicknames>> Juliet can't stand being called by her first name, and doing so will most likely result in having the closest blunt object hurled at you. She prefers "Jet", but has always answered to "String-Bean" at home.
Age>> April 24th; 16
Staff or Student>> Student Animal Shelter Worker
House>> White Ribbon
Gender>> Female
Sexuality>> Bisexual
Face Claim>> Chokelate
Turn away 'cause I need you more
Personality>> Jet may as well be the human embodiment of lively.
She's a bold, brash, sarcastic, and vibrant girl with both the street and book smarts needed to get almost anyone through life.
She's very much be the independent Wild Child of the group and loves her freedom. But, at the same time she can have a firm 'Get Down to Business' attitude about doing what needs to be done and what's expected of her without much of a hitch or having to be told twice.
I wouldn't recommend trying to pin her down under your thumb. That's when she may feel constricted, leading to the need to rebel and push people away to prove that she knows what she's doing and that she doesn't need some schmuck breathing down her neck.
Jet's got a lot of spunk, a horrible stubborn streak and isn't afraid to speak her mind around others, even if she knows that those others won't agree with her opinion. If they didn't want to hear it, they shouldn't have asked.
She's also almost completely dauntless; something that's lead her into trouble on multiple occasions. She has a hard time backing away from a challenge, and to most, she can come off as being a little too flippant and hard to keep up with.
Despite her rough exterior, Jet has a very generous heart. She loves to give and help others, and it distresses her deeply when she's not able to lend a hand.
Likes>>
Food: Most of Jet's life has revolved around something to do with food. Having a lack of it, finding it, growing it, eating it, cooking it, and sharing it with others. It has the power to bring complete strangers together, but at the same time has torn nations apart, and Jet has a lot of respect for that.
Colors: Jet's favorite color...hm.....is Rainbow considered a color? She loves to dress and surround herself in vibrant hues and she especially loves them when they're used by some of the amazing but little known artists she's seen on the streets.
Parkour and Free Running: All those gymnastics lessons she took but hated as a kid are finally finding a use!
Jet's still learning, but so far she can get herself into some pretty awesome spots, and besides, who needs sidewalks when you can't jump and climb across town to your destination at a fraction of the time? It can also make for a speedy get-away.
Music: If music were ever banned or simply ceased to exist one day, Jet would go crazy. It fuels her day, motivates, and keeps her focused and enthusiastic about the things she does. It also helps to sooth her nerves, calms her temper, and gets her to sleep at the end of the day. It's always offered her a little escape when things start getting tough.
She also likes to sing along to her music and can often be found pacing and belting out lyrics in her pretty bluesy voice when she thinks that she's alone, though she doesn't like to be caught doing it.
Riding: Jet loves animals of all shapes and sizes, no matter what they're covered in or how many legs they get around on (especially Elephants), but riding and learning to rehabilitate horses has truly changed her life. It's given her amazing self confidence and something to be proud of and reminds her that in the end, she can save a life and do some good in the world.
Dislikes>>
Picky Eaters and Wasteful People: "I hate (insert list of foods here)" and "It's last year's model, I'll just throw it away and get a new one" are sure to make Jet shutter. She can't stand watching people throw perfectly good food or items away and will always be the first to guilt-trip a wasteful person with the whole "Starving children and homeless people would be happy to have that" sepal.
Violence: Living on the streets, as well as some of her foster homes, has exposed Jet to some horrific things.
She's never been able to understand why people find the need to harm others, especially when it's usually over something pointless and petty. Jet's defended herself and may be a little gruff, but she's never hurt anyone just to hurt them or to get revenge.
Religious freaks: "Love everyone like they're your own family, but destroy everyone who isn't exactly like you"?.....How doe that even work?!
Abuse Towards The Homeless and Poor: Jet knows all too well what it's like to have to sleep on a card board box and it disgusts her to see how some homeless people are treated, even by those who claim to help them.
When People Lie To Make Themselves Seem Cooler: "I'm a member of the Mafia, I have a pet wolf, own a red sports car, dated a super model and have magical powers that no one knows about!"..................
No...... No you do not...... Just close your mouth and walk away......
Fears>> Loosing this chance at a better life and small, dark spaces...
Hopes>> More than anything, Jet just wants to feel that HSD in her hand and to help as many people and animals as she possibly can before her time runs out.
Secrets>> Jet became pregnant at the age of 15, against her will. She never told a soul and was ready to do what she had to do in order to take care of her baby, or to find it a loving family, but she suffered a miscarriage at 16 weeks.
She also has the habit of sneaking out her window to sit on the roof at night and star gaze while she smokes her Hookah Pen in privacy.
It’s the way I’m feeling I just can’t deny
Appearance>> Jet wasn't called 'String-Bean' for nothing!
She's pretty tall for a girl, measuring in at 5'9'', but she doesn't have much to her when it comes to weight, or those womanly curves for that matter. She wears a size-six in jeans, a Medium in shirts (more for length and comfort than anything), size seven shoes, and just barely makes it into a B-cup bra.
She has a light, faintly freckled complexion with high cheek-bones, cupid's bow lips, and pale blue-gray almond shaped eyes.
Her hair is straight, light chestnut to dark auburn ombre in color with straight bangs and usually worn down, though during sports and riding she'll pull it back to keep it from getting snagged.
One would think a girl with her build and age would move a little awkwardly, but Jet moves with a fair amount of grace and self assurance.
Markings>> Jet has a good collection of little scars going on, most of them small ones earned from scuffles or just getting beaten up while horsing around. She also has two piercings in each ear, as well as a septum piercing (bull ring). While in school she'll only wear one set of earrings at a time and has to hide her septum with a small, clear plastic retainer. It's nearly invisible and easy to tuck away and hide, but it also keeps the hole from closing up.
Jet doesn't want to get into too much trouble, but at the same time she doesn't believe in changing who she is.
There's a time and place for everything.
But I’ve gotta let it go
Medical History>> Jet's pretty well known at the Free Medical Clinic at home. She's got a good immune-system and rarely get sick, but she's been treated for fractured ribs and a broken wrist, bad scrapes, lacerations and a few concussions.
Criminal History>> There are a few counts for vandalism, breaking an entry, and trespassing on her record, but those will all be gone by the time Jet turns eighteen.
Full History>> Jet was born in Chicago Illinois, and has been in the foster care system since as far back as she can remember.
Memories of her parents were always sort of distant and fuzzy, seeing as she was only about four when she was taken away from them. Though that didn't mean that she wouldn't hear about the reason she was every single time one of her foster parents reminded her that, without them, she'd still be back with her abusive mother and drug addict father.
Jet's never been able to really say that she wished she could live with her actual parents...she's always figured that if they weren't able to get their acts together for their own kid, that they probably weren't worth knowing in the first place.
It just never bothered her.
What DID bother Jet was the fact that she had never been in a foster home for more than six months at a time.
It wasn't that they were all bad. In fact, seven times out of ten the homes she was sent to were actually pretty nice places to be, the other three out of that ten aside and all.
In the end things always wound up having the same result.
No matter how hard Jet hoped that she would be settled in a long-term home, and maybe even adopted, within a few short months she'd be forced to gather what few belongings she had into a trash bag and would then be dumped on the next doorstep without much explanation as to why she was being uprooted and passed along like a hand-me-down sweater.
Before too long the lack of stability along with poor emotional attachment and positive stimulation caused Jet to develop some behavioral problems.
This made it extremely difficult for the adults of her current home to keep her house bound.
At first, when Jet would run away, she would get picked up by the police within a matter of hours and taken back where she belonged.
However with each attempt she became better skilled at it, and eventually her last foster family just decided to stop looking for her in the end and save themselves the trouble. As long as her check was coming in on a regular basis, they stopped bothering.
At first, Jet had a tough time of it being on her own without a roof over her head.
She went hungry for far longer than she should have and for almost a week was forced to sleep in the terribly cold and windy out doors on park benches and in the jungle-gym tunnels of playgrounds.
She was all alone in a big-bad city with no one there to hold her hand or run to when things got hard.
Thankfully, before too long, Jet learned how to get along on her own and in the end, the massive urban jungle became her true home and as familiar to her as one might view their back yard.
Homeless shelters were like a five star hotel, the quarter showers at the laundromat a spa, Free Markets her departments store, and Freeganism along with open church and school functions with their pot-lucks were all you could eat buffets.
Jet learned if she played her part and volunteered in places that helped others that needed it more than herself, that the community would repay her with things she she in turn needed to survive.
One of those such places just happened to be the Humane Society that was just a hour bus ride out of town.
Free food for Church, all the t-shirts she could want, and if you came early enough, a brunch for volunteers only.
It was there working to care for and find homes for lost and helpless animals that Jet found her passion and talent for horsemanship.
It was also when the HC director, an older man by the name of Jasper Houghton, started to notice that something with Jet was amiss, despite her absolute dedication and genuine love for the work.
It was during that time that Jet became involved with a young man by the name of Austin.
Looking back now, Jet realizes that Austin never really cared about her. He was a dumb teen-aged boy who liked smoking weed and fooling around more than he enjoyed helping people or being a faithful boyfriend.
He said whatever he had to to keep Jet around, and because Jet was absolutely starved for human affection at that point, she fell for every single one of his lies.
Over the span of their relationship there was one break-up after another, only to be followed by Jet feeling sorry for Austin and taking him back.
In the end, this proved to come back to haunt Jet further down the line. After yet another argument about Austin's bad habits Jet decided that she had been through enough and made an attempt to cut all ties with Austin.
This worked for about two or three weeks, but eventually Austin showed back up begging for forgiveness and trying to feed Jet the same lied he had pulled a dozen times before.
This round, Jet was smart and refused him. Resulting in a fight that quickly turned ugly and eventually, Austin's arrest.
Long story short, Jet was eventually taken under the wings of the HC's full time employees. Especially the director, who soon filed the paper work needed to become Jet's legal guardian after his lawyer argued in a small court that he believed that continuing to volunteer at the shelter and work with the animals was beneficial to both Jet's physical and emotional health.
Not to mention the fact that Mr. Houghton would be fully capable of being financially responsible for not only Jet's every day needs, but also for the cost it would be to send her to Blue Ridge in order to give her the opportunity to further her equestrian training and to continue her education.
We found love in a hopeless place
Pet Name>> Churchill
Registered Name>> N/A
Age>> Four Years
Gender>> Altered Male
Species>> Feline
Breed>> Domestic medium hair
Registry>> N/A
Personality>> Jet's always joked that Church is Bi-Polar. One minute the cat is lazing in the sun, and calm as could be. Then in a blink of an eye he's bouncing off the walls and chasing shadows and the toes of unsuspecting humans across the room.
He's well known for slipping outside and hanging around the barns while Jets off at work or in classes and is proven guilty of yowling outside windows late at night like a maniac; some believe just to be spiteful and annoy people.
Church enjoys the company of older teenagers and adults, especially elderly people, but will vanish into thin air as soon as children who are old enough to walk and catch him come into the picture.
History>> Jet doesn't know much about where Church came from, or what his life was like before she found him.
All she knows is that when she found the miserable little ball of fur, all thin and matted hiding under a dumpster, she used an old pillow case to catch him and took him back to her current homeless shelter where she worked on gaining his trust and putting some meat back on his bones.
It was a long process and required a great deal of patience, but eventually Church warmed up to Jet and stated to let her stroke him and eventually pick him up. Three months later Jet was able to smuggle him onto the bus and scrape up enough money to have him look at by a vet at the humane society.
Seeing as he was already neutered Church was groomed and received his shots, much to his dislike, and the two have been thick as thieves for about two years now.
