Emmet's mother Leona was planning on selling the foal when it was old enough but Emmett fell in love with Jacko when they first lay eyes on each other. Emmett took care of Jacko and tried to persuade his mother not to sell him. Leona thought it was wise for Emmett to keep the foal as she wanted Emmett to spend as much time away from the house as possible because she did not want Emmett to see his father abusing her. Emmett bonded with Jacko up till he was able to ride him and then they became the untouchable pair.
