People throw rocks at things that shine
Personality>>
Maeve, in a nutshell, is hardworking, and has become essentially defined by her work. Determined and ambitious, she will do anything that it takes to make it to the top of the equestrian world, even without the leg up that the rest of her peers have. Quiet and polite, she is focused and not easily worked into a tizzy. She's cool and collected, and handles things well, no matter how frustrated she is really becoming. Working with the clients at Fox Meadow can be difficult for anyone, with their constant demands that are often impossible, but Maeve handles it all with a quiet grace. Her toil pays off, for she has become a favorite among the boarders, who know that she will always do her very best to get a job done. Maeve's composure also lends itself well to working with horses, and she is able to calm them down, work out their worries, and make them look their best, which makes her a talented hunter rider. Unfortunately, she is not as socially adept around her peers, as her personality doesn't exactly lend itself to fun, and she doesn't really fit in with them, especially with the other barn girls, who see her as someone who works for them rather than someone who rides alongside them. It's difficult for Maeve to keep up with these girls, as they have their own horses and ride all the time, while Maeve fits in her riding time around the rest of of her endless barn chores. Nevertheless, Maeve proves her equality and worth in the show ring, in which she proves that everything has been worth it for her.

>> She won't be able to stay at Blue Ridge, whether it be that she isn't good enough, or her parents can't pay what they are expected to.
Hopes>>
>> To ride horses as a career and eventually train at a show stable.
>> To be able to financially support herself and her family one day and live comfortably, without worry.
Secrets>>
>> Though Maeve's family always supported her riding to the best of their ability and told her not to worry about their finances, Maeve would frequently go through their bills and finances when her parents weren't around, so she knows that Blue Ridge will be a huge waste for her family if the school doesn't help her to succeed. She is scared that her dreams are too big, and that they will ruin her and her family.
>> Though Maeve wasn't able to spend the entire winter in Wellington at WEF like many of the other juniors did, her trainer and the barn would bring her down some weekends and during the breaks she had from school during the winter so that she could help out during the busy days and show a little bit for the barn. During one of these trips, she was assigned as Jeanne-Claire's show groom, which, of course, resulted in Jeanne-Claire assigning miserable, pointless tasks to Maeve. Before one of the classes that Jeanne-Claire was catch riding in, she was asked to dismount, and the horse was led away by the grooms from the stable the horse boarded at. Maeve tried to follow, since Jeanne-Claire and the horse were her charges, but she was shooed away. It was clear to both her and Jeanne-Claire that the horse had been drugged, but Maeve stayed away from Jeanne-Claire, not wanting her to know that she had noticed. Jeanne-Claire still doesn't know that Maeve is aware that she rode a drugged horse, and Maeve knows that if she ever finds out, she'll make Maeve's life a living hell.
And life makes love look hard
Appearance>>
Maeve is a slight, but strong, young girl. She is naturally slim, but of an average height, and she is in very good shape from working in the barn all the time. Her hair is so dark that it nearly always appears to be black, but it is actually just very dark brown. She keeps it long, but only a few inches longer than shoulder length, as any other length is difficult for her to deal with. She has a very pale complexion that doesn't tan so much as sunburn, so she is constantly applying sun block whenever she is outside, which is basically all the time. She has light freckles on her face that become more apparent during the summer. Maeve's eyes are green, almost hazel, and at first glance will appear to be brown due to their darkness. As far as her wardrobe, Maeve dresses simply. She has a slew of white, navy, burgundy, and hunter green polos that she used for working and lessons, and has a bunch of schooling breeches that she rides in as well. Otherwise, she'll wear jeans and a polo, oxford, or T-shirt. She's not very interested in what she's wearing, and cares more about what is practical and efficient.

Full History>>
Maeve was born as the older child in her average family of four, followed two years later by her younger sister. Her parents, both hard-working, honest people, raised her well, with firm hands and loving hearts. They were by no means wealthy, but they didn't consider themselves to be unfortunate, and made the best of what they have, grateful that they were able to life the lifestyle they did. The recession, however, did take a tole on the family, and they had to tighten their budget significantly, as did the rest of the middle-class population.
At a young age, Maeve caught the horse bug, and it soon became clear that stuffed ponies and a horse poster covered wall would not satisfy her craving. Her mother found the most inexpensive riding lessons in the area at a lesson barn, and there, Maeve learned how to ride. She rode everything, from stubborn ponies, to panicky thoroughbreds who seemed to have wasps instead of brains. She spent all of her time there, and eventually got a job mucking out stalls so that she could ride more and spend every waking hour there. It was difficult work, and not the ideal environment, but Maeve became good at riding, and barn owner began to throw her on anything he got at auction, knowing that Maeve would be able to sit whatever the horse could throw at her (that, or at least fall without getting too hurt).
Unfortunately for her, Maeve's dreams ranged farther than this dusty old farm where students rode bareback in t-shirts and jeans. She began to attend A and AA rated shows to admire the shiny hunters and impeccable dressed riders who didn't seem to have a speck of dust on them. Desperate to be a part of this world, she worked up the courage to approach the trainer of the most prestigious barn in her area to inquire about a job. The trainer, who was rather well known, was not impressed by Maeve's small stature. However, the ambition in her eye was evident, and he couldn't help but be reminded of himself at that age. He'd climbed the ranks of the horse world to where he now resided, and he decided to give Maeve a chance as a working student.
Maeve had always been extremely hard working, and she proved this at Fox Meadow Farm. She did everything, from mucking, to cleaning, to exercising horses. As the only working student, she worked beside the other grooms and stable hands, sharing their work as well, and tacking up clients' horses for lessons. She always did more than she had to, grateful for the chance she'd been given. In return for her hard work, Maeve was allowed to take lessons and ride the horses the barn owned. These creatures could hardly be compared to the school horses at her old barn, and Maeve was amazed by the difference in these hunters.
Maeve grew to be a favorite with her trainer, due to the extra mile that she always put in, and as a result, he let her ride some of the best horses, and allowed her to show for the stable as well. He also gave her extra hours, so that she could be payed beside being a working student, so that rather than working another job aside from the stable, she could spend all her time there. He made exceptions for her, and when she showed up to her lesson with the other juniors with dust and stains on her, he'd let it go, rather than sending her out like he'd have done with any of the other girls. He knew that she worked hard, and appreciated this, as his other students were spoiled rotten, and hardly ever cared for their own horses. The exception to this opinion, of course, was Jeanne-Claire Augustin, his star rider. Their trainer didn't know it, but Jeanne-Claire hated Maeve, and did her very best to make Maeve's life a nightmare. With her saggy breeches and appreciation from the trainer, Maeve was everything that Jeanne-Claire couldn't stand. Being the alpha female in the barn's clique, Jeanne-Claire made sure that none of the other girls befriended Maeve, hoping that the other girl would eventually leave if she froze her out enough. Maeve's determination, however, allowed her to forge on, ignoring the other girls as best she could.
Before coming to Fox Meadow, Maeve's riding had been strong, but needed improvement. Because she had ridden such a range of horses, her riding was very effective: she could convince a horse to do just about anything in its capabilities. However, her trainer hadn't been to picky about equitation, and was basically happy so long as Maeve got the job done. As a result, Maeve's equitation wasn't the prettiest, so when she came to Fox Meadow, that was the first things that needed to be ironed out of her. Otherwise, she was a talented rider that could perform well on any horse, and as her equitation improved, so did her opportunities to show with Fox Meadow. She loved the experiences, even if show weekends did leave her stretched thin between caring for clients' horses and trying to prepare herself as well. She loved the hunters the best, and she generally did rather well, as her trainer let her ride good horses, and she was able to make them their best.
In October of her freshman year, Maeve was competing at the National Horse show in the Large Junior Hunters class when she was spotted by an older rider. While watching her ride, Dylan Carr noticed her trainer, who was at the rail, and recognized him as being an old friend from the equestrian academy that both had attended. He learned that this was Maeve's trainer, and the conversation turned to her, and her trainer told Dylan the girl's story. After her ride, he spoke to Maeve about her hopes for the future, and mentioned riding academies. The girl expressed an interest in attending one, but it was clear that she would not be able to do so. About a month later, Maeve's family received a letter that contained an offer - an offer that would change Maeve's life. She would be able to attend Blue Ridge Riding Academy, and her family would have the financial help they needed for her to do so. Maeve would be allowed to stay as long as she worked for the Academy as a barn hand and kept her grades up. This would allow Maeve to pursue the equestrian career she dreamed of. She soon learned that Jeanne-Claire Augustin would, coincidentally, be attending the same academy, and that she would be in for a more interesting experience than she originally expected.
