That planet Earth turns slowly
Personality>>
If asked, Rebecca describes herself as a part-time introvert. Some days she would rather be without human company, and other days she seeks it out. Conversationally, she is still more of a listener than a speaker, regardless of how she’s feeling that day. It isn’t that she causes awkward silences, she’s just more the kind of person who is content with making a remark only every now and then. She laughs and smiles often, much more than she speaks. Her favorite thing to do on a rainy day is sit somewhere where she can hear the rain but not get wet and read a book.
Over the years she’s developed an exoskeleton that deflects people’s negative comments, though it isn’t completely bulletproof yet. Her most effective method of dealing with naysayers was to give herself that little nudge that would make her stand out. For example, her family didn’t buy meat very often, so if she declared herself a pesci-vegetarian it wouldn’t be much of a dietary change anyway. So she did. She saw that Asian Western riders were almost nonexistent, so she learned reining and cattle work.
She does her best to be friendly to all, though it takes some time before she categorizes someone as a friend. She can be a little shy around men, but only due to her lack of experience being around them. Those that manage to be called her best friends would describe her as a little crazy, a lot different, but a whole lot of fun.

Appearance>>
Rebecca has brown hair so dark that it looks black unless seen in direct sunlight. It reaches down to the bottom edge of her shoulder blades and is usually parted just off center. Her twinkling brown eyes are almost always found accented by light makeup, as are her smiling lips. Her skin tone is a light yellow-tan typical of those of Asian descent. As for her stature, she is neither slim nor plump, and stands at 5’7”.
When working, Rebecca keeps her clothing professional, never anything with words on it. If you catch her in her off time, you will find that she dresses like any 27-year-old might. Respectable, of course, but a little playful as well.
Markings>> Bite marks on the inside of her calf from trying to stop a dog fight.

Medical History>> Went to the hospital for swine flu during college, stayed a night at the hospital to treat the dog bites
Criminal History>> Was involved in a lengthly legal battle against an angry ranch owner, but was acquitted.
Full History>>
Rebecca was born to first-generation Chinese immigrants who had settled in San Francisco to chase the American dream. She was raised a little differently, however, after an obscure job promotion sent the little family to North Dakota. Rebecca grew accustomed to seeing European complexions anywhere she went, save her own household of course. However, people didn’t get used to seeing her quite as quickly. She drew many looks – some nice and some not so nice - and got asked very stereotypical questions, but didn’t mind at first, putting it to genuine curiosity and limited exposure to Asians.
She got involved in the same things as her peers did, but somehow that racial barrier just wouldn’t dissolve completely. Sure, she made friends – good friends, at that – but there was always that stubborn little hint of prejudice. Her parents did their best to take her out of the state, using the Junior Handler competitions of AKC to do so. Rebecca never did exceptional, but her dogs won their fair share of titles. She also learned to ride, though she viewed it as a recreational sport that allowed her to de-stress.
She managed to get accepted into Yale University and her roles in the horse and dog show worlds swapped places. With the ISHA, she learned jumping and dressage, but found that her place was still with the Western disciplines. Nevertheless, it wasn’t too long before she became a strong member of Yale’s Equestrian Team. Academically, she majored in Microbiology, and did a research project on possible medications to temporarily strengthen racehorses. She had meant it to be used in freshly rescued horses, but upon graduation was approached by David, a man who claimed that he ran a rescue that could benefit from her ideas.
It turned out that he didn’t, in fact, own a rescue. Rather, he operated a small, slightly shady horse farm that wasn’t profiting as much as he would have liked. The facilities that he showed Rebecca, however, had been a real rescue ranch run by one of his…business partners. Rebecca fell for the trap and came up with a drug that was a bit like a horse version of 5 Hour Energy, designed to help the weakest horses as they began the recovery process. However, like many drugs, it was dangerous in high amounts. David lost a few horses that he had betted – and drugged - heavily on and sued Rebecca. The next few months were harrowing for the young woman, but with the help of a fiery lawyer, she was found not guilty.
To get away from her disastrous experience with research, Rebecca went back to school to get a teaching degree, hoping to educate some young person who wouldn’t mess up like she had. It seemed to help, if not for the threatening letter she received one day from David. After working as a substitute teacher in a few districts, she ended up at Blue Ridge full time and ready to put the past behind her.

Pet Name>> Shadow
Registered Name>> Shadows at Midnight CDX HT NA
Age>> 3 years
Gender>> Male
Species>> Canine
Breed>> Australian Shepherd
Registry>>AKC
Personality>>
Like most Australian Shepherds, Shadow is very intelligent. When he's bored, his favorite thing to do is find something he's not supposed to have and play chase. He has been known to escape from outdoor enclosures, usually through digging or scrambling over a fence. Every door or gate must be locked, for he has learned to open them with a strong flick of his muzzle. When he's not making trouble, however, he is a friendly, sweet, happy dog with an intense, unblinking stare.
History>>
Around the time when Rebecca began studying to become a teacher, she made a trip down to New York for the Westminster Dog Show. It was a refreshing experience that reminded her of her days as a junior handler. She decided that it was time to have a dog once again. After doing a bit of research, she contacted an Australian Shepherd breeder and negotiated an affordable price for a puppy that was less fit for the confirmation ring. After all, Rebecca wasn't going to have time to take a deserving dog to the top. Shadow joined Rebecca as soon as he was old enough to leave his mother, and has been with her ever since.
