Jennifer pulled her truck into the drive of the Academy. She had been here before, of course, for her interview, and to take a look around. Now, though, she looked at it in a very different light. This was very nearly her school, now. She cast a glance into her rear-view mirror and looked at the large dog sitting in the bed of the truck, along with most of her suitcases and belongings. Jazz was standing in the space she had left him, tongue lolling, watching the pastures as they rolled by. Turning her attention back to the road, Jennifer saw the turnoff for the main office parking lot and signaled, before she turned the truck into the smaller road, which opened up almost right away to a large parking lot. Finding one of the longer-length spots that could accommodate her truck and the trailer that she pulled, Jennifer steered the truck into the slot, then turned off the engine. For a moment, she sat in her truck, feeling slightly nervous, just looking around at the snow-covered buildings that were around. The roads had been cleared, as had the paths, and the campus looked wonderful.
Taking a deep breath, Jen pocketed the key and got out of the car, slamming the door behind her as she went. Walking around the length of the sleek black side, she smiled at Jasper, "Stay for a bit longer, okay, boy? I'm going to check in, then we can go take a look at our new home." Continuing her path, she opened one of the sliding feed windows on the side of her trailer and then stepped up onto the side of the trailer, looking in at her bay mare's pretty striped face, "You doing alright in here, Spotty?" As the mare looked up, Jennifer smiled and held out a carrot that she had kept in her pocket, "Hang in there, I'll get you out of there in a moment." Leaving the window open, she jumped down from the trailer and continued on her way, following the shoveled path of snow to the main office door.
Pushing it open, she entered a small, but neat office. She stepped up to the desk and smiled, "Good afternoon. I'm just checking in to get my room and stall assignments, for Jennifer Hart." As the young secretary pulled up her file, and probably saw her position, the younger woman's demeanor changed. She hurried to pull out a map and highlight two buildings on it.
"You'll be in room 101 of the Brown Ribbon Apartments," accompanied by the tip of the highlighter tapping against the mentioned building, "And your mare," a glance at the screen, "Snakes 'N' Ladders, will be in the Red Willow barn, here." Again the highlighter prodded a point on the map. "Your office is here, in the main building," the secretary turned around to point at the hallway, "As is Ms. Tyler's, the vice-principal's. If you have any more questions, please, feel free to ask me."
Jennifer smiled at the other woman, "Thank you for your time." She picked up the map and studied it, "I'll be back after settling in Spot, then." Turning on her heel, she caught a glimpse of the question on the woman's face and almost laughed, although she contained her feelings until she had gotten back to her truck and started the engine, when a big smile broke across her face. The reaction was a common one, for anyone that saw Spot, or knew of her breed, and heard her barn name. Laying the map flat on her steering wheel, Jennifer followed it, driving towards the Red Willow barn.
