Personality>>
Jacob is quite shy and held back when he first meets people. He's never been much of a socialite and unless he has a common interest with someone, small talk doesn't come easily. He's very protective about his personal life and it takes a lot to get him to budge on the matter. Doing so it's likely Jacob pushes most people away simply by virtue of never trying. However, once the shell is broken Jacob is a very caring and compassionate person. He's level headed and in control of most of his emotions and would rather see himself hurting than witness another. He's genuinely interested in what is bothering those he is close to and will go above and beyond to cheer them up. His mood is greatly affected by the moods of others surrounding him and picking up their vibes, but if it's a crowd of people he doesn't know he retreats into his shell regardless of the communal vibe.

Jacob was abandoned by his parents when he was 4 then moved in with his aunt and uncle very briefly before they gave him up to foster homes. He bounced around various families before joining the Turcottes at 11 who later adopted him as their own at 14. He's ashamed of his past and doesn't want the other students to judge him for it.
Being an underage smoker, Jacob has to be very cautious when he does. He doesn't want the faculty to find out and alert his parents on the matter, or worse; get expelled.
It’s the way I’m feeling I just can’t deny
Appearance>>
At first look Jacob comes off as a clean, well-dressed, presentable young man. He stands roughly 5'10" and weighs about 145 pounds with roughly styled brown hair (if he put the effort in). Upon closer look you may notice his brown eyes tell his story. Insecure, internal conflict, a general sense of being condescending toward himself. However, some people take his facial expressions as he's casting judgement on them thus adding to his internal conflict.
He usually can be seen wearing his signature light gray beanie, half hanging off his head, complimented with a checkered light gray/black sport coat and aviators. Underneath is either a band tee or a button up with a loose tie followed by fitted, faded jeans and skating shoes. When he's riding he sports Jet black from top to bottom with only his initials J.E.T. in white going up the left leg of his riding pants.

Full History>>
Originally born Jacob Elias Simmons, not much is known to him about his early years. He knows his parents didn't really want him and they were on the run from the law, at least that's the story his Aunt Mary and Uncle Charles told him before they dropped him with the social worker. At the ripe age of 4 1/2, Jacob was on his own and off to his 3rd set of parents in less than 5 years. He recalls spending a year with his first foster family before they put him back into the system because they couldn't get through to him. He was a quiet, withheld child who seemed bright by all counts but the family couldn't connect to him and felt he would be best with another family. What they had rationalized as doing a favor for Jacob, he saw as being abandoned yet again.
From the ages 6 to 10, Jacob had been with 7 families and was reported running away 23 times. Staggering numbers for a child of such a young age but, he was just hoping to find someone who truly cared for him. Jacob also found his foster families always wanted to ask about his past which just pushed him further from them. With his case worker fearing that he may just keep cycling in and out of houses until he wound up in a group home, she was desperate to help this boy get to lead a relatively "normal life." What seemed like a great match on paper turned out to be an amazing fit in person. Landry and Jennifer Turcotte of Lynchburg, Tennessee were a model couple with no history of issues with the law and both holding reliable jobs. Landry was an up and coming lawyer doing work for arguably the company that put Lynchburg on the map, Jack Daniels, whilst Jennifer was a Nurse Practitioner at the local hospital. They had been married for 7 years and lived in Lynchburg for 3 of those, previously living in New York where they had met. Once it was decided kids were in their future they tried and tried, but had no luck. Fearing the worst, the couple scheduled numerous appointments with specialist to get to the root of the problem. After multiple visits, countless tests, it was found Landry was sterile and couldn't father his own child, devastated by the news the couple began to drift apart for a short time before ultimately coming together. Jennifer had decided that even if the child couldn't be biologically their's, they would love and care for it just the same.
Parents who couldn't have their own child and a child who just wanted to be loved, it was a match made in heaven. The first month was a little rough with Jacob getting used to a new house, town, and of course parents. But the affection they gave him was more than enough to break Jacob from his shell. They encouraged him to express himself, ask questions, try new things, and of course have fun. They didn't try prodding into his past, after all the case worker told them the whole story. Within 6 months the family had come together and Jacob was happier than ever, smiling ear to ear whenever he was with Jennifer and Landry. On his 11th birthday, Jennifer took him horseback riding for the first time. After he got the hang of sitting on the horse, Jennifer could tell he was a natural, riding through the field as if he had done it hundreds of times. The joy he felt was unlike anything he ever felt before and Jennifer saw the potential. He began taking lessons and was competing by his 13th birthday regularly. Success came early and often until his horse hit a soft patch going into a jump and flung Jacob off, sending him into the bar, breaking his collarbone.
Jacob was destroyed yet again, losing his major source of joy until he healed. Inside he knew Jennifer and Landry were still there for him and this kept his spirits up. But on the outside, he just looked miserable. Fearing they may lose him emotionally Jennifer and Landry decided to officially adopt Jacob to lift his spirits. On his 14th birthday it was official and the glimmer had come back to his soft eyes, but Jennifer worried it wasn't enough. She had seen the signs of depression and was worried he'd slip down that path further. Not willing to let this happen, she introduced Jacob to meditation. Just like with the riding, Jacob picked up meditating swiftly. It allowed him to healthily confront his demons from the past with Jennifer's help and overcome his fears of competing again. He was on his way to being back on track emotionally, spiritually, and with his horse. The horizon seemed brighter, but Jacob couldn't help but worry what the next hurdle he'd face was.
As high school began Jacob realized making friends wasn't easy for him as he could only connect with other riders. But just like the other kids, they too were always asking about his "real parents". It wasn't something he wanted the whole school to know and he wasn't ready to just tell everyone he met, "Oh yeah, my parents were fugitives who abandoned me." He drifted into being a loner in school. Jacob began regularly skipping classes, let his grades slip, and even picked up smoking cigarettes just to fit in with the others who skipped. 'I'll only smoke when I skip' he told himself, he was in control. But like anyone who smokes it started taking over, soon he was sneaking out at home to smoke one. He even started walking to school so he could smoke before getting there. Jacob thought it was fine, he finally was making friends and it helped him relax at school. But it was a secret he couldn't keep from his parents. Landry could smell it on the clothes but wouldn't approach the matter, fearing he'd force Jacob into his shell again. He also knew Jennifer couldn't find out for she would definitely approach it, thus it became Landry's secret as well. Recalling an article he had read about Blue Ridge in an equestrian magazine, Landry knew a change was needed. He had hoped it would be a change that could help Jacob more than he and Jennifer could. A school with other kids who loved horses as much as Jacob did wasn't something to pass up. Maybe he would finally feel accepted and be able to mesh with others his age. By the next semester Jacob was enrolled and beginning his new journey, on his own again physically, but finally spiritually supported by someone else.
