Shine a light through an open door
Full Name>> Martijn Jonathan Van der Berg

Turn away 'cause I need you more
Personality>> Tijn is usually rather likable, and that's good enough for him. He enjoys company, although he's never one to force himself upon others. He does prefer quiet situations to parties, because he finds them too overstimulating, something that bothers him, but he'll tag along if that's where everyone else is going.
As far as anger goes... Does Martijn get angry? Yes, he does, although most people would be hard-pressed to notice it. He revenges himself in small, petty ways that don't harm anyone, but show his annoyance with a particular action or inaction. If it doesn't hurt someone, it's fair game. Anything that actually hurts someone, however, or brings down larger consequences than a 'getting even', isn't allowed.
The moral code. Tijn has his own, which he follows religiously, although sometimes it makes no sense to anyone else. He might seem rather hypocritical, changing what's acceptable from one situation to the next, but then, every situation is different, and sometimes there are reasons to bend the rules... At least, for him to. Everyone else? Maybe, if they had a really compelling reason.
As far as work ethic goes, that's just another facet of the moral code. Martijn will throw himself whole-heartedly into anything he does, be it vacuuming (You won't find a speck of anything in the carpet after he's done), or his homework. His riding is no exception, but rather the most important, as he expects perfection from himself. After all, his horse, no matter what horse he's riding, deserves only the best from him.
Likes>>
Frisians (and all horses, in general)
Petty revenge
The cold (You can always add another layer. Take more layers off when it's hot, get arrested for public indecency)
Cats
Bicycling
Dislikes>>
Driving (Horse-driving, that is!)
Whiners/complainers
Parties
Heat

Fears>>
Getting hurt by his horses, or through his own mistakes.
His mother will change her mind and sell his two horses as well.
Hopes>>
At least learn to show decently in dressage
Remind his sisters that not all horses are bad.
Secrets>>
He's left campus during lunch too many times to count at his old school (Usually to go and spend time with his horses), and once was the only witness to a burglary. He never stepped forward, fearing retribution for flaunting the closed-campus rule.
It’s the way I’m feeling I just can’t deny
Appearance>> Standing at five ten already, Martijn has not quite reached his final height yet, but he probably won't top more than 6'3". He is strong and muscular, from time working on his family's farm, although he shuns the thing that most people call a gym. He would rather work out by carrying hay bales to feed the horses, or lugging tack trunks to and from the truck for shows. His messy (or stylishly mussed, if you're being polite) hair is brown, with a hint of orange, kept just long enough to not be considered proper, not that it matters to him, or anyone he really cares about. He tends to wear what's comfortable to him, jeans and a button-up shirt most of the time, even when he's riding, unless, of course, he's showing.
Markings>> Minor scars, nothing notable.
But I’ve gotta let it go
Medical History>> Normal childhood illnesses, broke an arm at seven falling off of a tree.
Criminal History>> N/A
Full History>> Martijn was born to a second generation American father, of Dutch ancestry, and an American architect mother, living in Norton, Virginia. Their grandfather's farm had already taken off at the time, making a name for the wonderful Frisians that they bred and trained. He was preceded by one sister, Dunya, by about a year and a half, and about the same time after, followed by another, Malou. They grew up relatively closely, although as they grew older, Tijn ended up being left on his own more and more.
He never remembered meeting his grandfather, although the man was alive until about his fourth year. After his death, the Van der Berg farm passed to Tijn's father, who had learned from birth-on to run the farm, and was doing his best to pass it on to his son. Before he could even walk, Tijn was set on his father's lap, in a buggy or cart, whatever they were driving that day, and by the age of five, he was learning to hold the reins. The Van der Berg farm focused on driving, shows and presentation both, including some movie appearances for their horses, and when he was seven, Tijn accompanied his father to one of these filmings. There, he hung out with some of the other children, climbing trees to see the action, and generally trying to keep out of the way, lest they be sent back home.
Only two months into eighth grade, Tijn's family experienced a massive upheaval. While driving one of the younger horses, the wheel of the cart Mr. Van der Berg was using snapped, sending the young horse into a frenzy. When the wreckage of the cart was discovered, it had overturned onto the man, causing blunt trauma to the head, and a rather quick death. Mrs. Van der Berg, after mourning, considered the future of horses, because she could not take care of them, and there was no one whom she would entrust the name of their family to. So, she suggested that they be sold.
This, Martijn couldn't handle, on top of losing his father. While he knew he didn't want to drive his horses, until the sting had eased a bit, he couldn't imagine giving up the last link to his father. His mother, however, had other plans. She wanted to sell the farm, and there would be no way to keep the horses in the city, where she wanted to go. Martijn, in a last-ditch effort, asked about attending a school he'd heard of, only a state away. His mother, afraid of ostracizing her son even more after his father's death, finally agreed, and agreed that he might bring one or two horses with him... So here he is, running away before they could reach another Christmas with a gap in the family.
We found love in a hopeless place
Pet Name>> Eir
Registered Name>> Eføy Gudinne av Lyse Månen
Age>> 3 years
Gender>> Spayed Female
Species>> Feline
Breed>> Norwegian Forest Cat
Registry>> FIFe
Personality>> Intelligent and friendly, Eir has no problem keeping up with her owner. She absolutely loves accompanying him around whenever she's allowed, and suffers from a degree of separation anxiety when she's left alone for too long. It's very easy to win her affections, and she approaches almost everyone. Almost no animal is spared her love, as she was exposed to nearly everything growing up. Birds, while she was exposed, are, however, the exception, as her hunting instinct can come through, and it wouldn't be safe for the birds.
History>> Eir was born in Norway, in a well-known cattery. She was not of show quality, however, due to a fault in her paw which doesn't hamper her everyday life, and was spayed at about half a year of age. As Martijn's mother was contacted about possibly designing a new building for the cattery's owners, she saw the cat, and inquired about her. Eir came home to live with the Van der Berg family after that, and grew attached especially to Tijn. His mother, not wanting to deal with any animals anymore, had no problem letting him take the feline to school with him.
Appearance>> Here + Here (Black tabby mackerel & white)
