Shine a light through an open door
Esther Eleanor Song>>
Nicknames>> Essy, when her brothers feel like annoying her.
Age>> November 1st, 1998; 16
Staff or Student>> Student
House>> Green ribbon
Gender>> Female
Sexuality>> Bisexual
Face Claim>>Sulli
Turn away 'cause I need you more
Personality>> Esther is the daydreaming type. More often than not, her head's somewhere in the clouds, imagining a new plot for the next great American novel or picking out a name and eyecolor for the daring and controversial protagonist. The only time she's ever fully concentrating is when she's working with her horse or writing a story. When she's talking to someone, they tend to get the idea that she's only giving them about ninety percent of her attention; whether that's true or not depends on the person.
Esther is not the most self-aware person, as a consequence of never paying full attention. She gets easily excited about things like new episodes of her favorite show or new flowers sprouting outside. When that happens, or when she's passionate about something, Esther's voice starts to pick up speed until she's talking so fast most have a hard time understanding her.
Despite being quite outgoing, Esther has a hard time letting people in. The possibility of being outed is absolutely terrifying, so she refuses to get too close to anybody and risk them finding out.
Likes>> Big willow trees, peppermints, rice with ketchup, used bookstores, the Arctic Monkeys, Legally Blonde, angel hair pasta.
Dislikes>>Being tickled, mayonnaise, racoons, getting up in the morning, extremely loud noises, feeling helpless.
Fears>> Being outed as trans and thunderstorms.
Hopes>> Being able to pass and publishing a book some day.
Secrets>>She's transgender.
It’s the way I’m feeling I just can’t deny
Appearance>> Standing at 5'7, Esther doesn't make for much of an intimidating figure. Her style is geared towards making her look as feminine as possible; dresses, makeup, the whole nine yards. Of course, working with horses that's not always possible, but Esther does what she can when she can. She has long black hair that falls to her chest in waves, delicate features, and dark eyes, all of which she's very proud of. However, she has next to no curves; probably her biggest insecurity. When Esther walks, it tends to be slow, meandering saunter, unless she really has somewhere to be. Posture is important to her, however, so she always stands up straight.
Markings>> A piercing in each ear and some barely-noticeable scars from eighth grade.
But I’ve gotta let it go
Medical History>> Severe gender dysphoria that lead to depression and anxiety in middle school, after starting puberty. Broke leg in third grade after attempting to do a flip off of the playground monkeybars.
Criminal History>> Nothing.
Full History>>Sarah Song went into labour on October 31st, 1999, while she was in the middle of handing a Snickers bar to a three-year-old boy who lived across the street named Sammy. Approximately eight hours later, at 3:07 AM on November 1st, Esther was born. Sarah and Esther's father Phillip named her Daniel, then brought her home to meet Liam and Felix, her two older brothers.
For the first elevenish years of Esther's life, she was a fairly normal boy. Maybe a bit on the feminine side, but nothing special. She went to school, read books, played baseball, and, of course, rode horses.
There were three times in Esther's life that everything changed. The first was when she was eight and her mom died, courtesy of an aggressive strain of breast cancer that no one caught until it was too late. Suddenly, her mother's soothing hand wasn't there to cool her hand when she had a fever, and her lavender perfume no longer filled the house.
The second was two years later when Phillip remarried. Her name was Meredith O'Connor and she had three-year-old twins named Elizabeth and Alexander. Meredith showed Esther how to take care of a Western saddle and, later, how to paint her nails and contour her face, things Sarah would've done but never got the chance to do. So Esther accepted her new stepmom, though she refused to call her anything but Meredith. Liam and Felix took a little longer to come around, but eventually, they did too.
The third was in the middle of sixth grade, at the very beginning of puberty, when she realized being born Daniel was a mistake. The next two years were a sea of pain, misery, and self-hatred. Every day, she looked more and more masculine, at least in her mind. Finally, one night near the end of eighth grade, she couldn't stand her body anymore, and tried to evacuate. Forcibly.
Meredith found her in the bathtub in a pool of blood and rushed her to the emergency room. When she woke up, the whole story came out. Several gallons of tears from the Song-O'Connor family later and Esther was out to her family.
After that came the medical and social transitioning. She started taking hormones, and already having a feminine face, they did a lot. Over the summer, she quietly went from Daniel Song to Esther Eleanor Song.
Ninth grade wasn't fun. Besides being a part of the 0.5 percent of her school that was Asian, she was now the only transgender person.
Esther ended up taking her second semester at an online school.
Now, she's hoping to have a better time at Blue Ridge. Cliche as it might sound, right now all Esther wants is to be a completely normal girl.
(And to ride horses, of course).
We found love in a hopeless place
