Curtis is a quirky one indeed. Social, intellectual, artistic and fiercely intelligent, Curtis has a love and passion for horror, film and the macabre more intense than any relationship he has ever been in. His love of writing is what inspired him to start his band, Dead Air, with a close friend of his, being inspired by horror movies he grew up loving as a child. He's very outgoing, charming, and loves meeting people. His gregarious disposition is almost a defense mechanism, however, keeping up a fence which seems to be not only to protect himself from other people, but himself as well. Curtis loves to write, loves horror and the ghoulish delights of the horror world that not many people are brave enough to venture into. He has played the electric guitar since he was twelve years old, and unconsciously, it seems as though his artistic muse was a therapy for the much repressed traumas of his childhood. However, that being the only way he knows how to cope; ignoring his past completely, has spawned many more emotional and psychiatric issues. He is in no way dangerous, but a bit of an inadvertent emotional masochist. His self-proclaimed lack of maturity; which many times people would disagree, has brought him much enjoyment but Curtis will be the first to admit that it made him "suck at any sort of coping mechanism, having the emotional stability of a fourteen year old boy", meaning that the best way he knows how to deal with it is to just shut down and ignore it. This, however, has had detrimental consequences and raised even more personal demons than he ever could have imagined.
Because of the trauma he refuses to really acknowledge growing up, Curtis is battling a slew of inner demons that appear to be winning through forms of Borderline Personality Disorder and what he suspects might be a hint of schizophrenia. He has never been diagnosed because the idea of seeing a shrink and opening that door he has barricaded shut in his psyche utterly terrifies him. Through his own brief hallucinations that occur during any sort of emotionally disturbing occurrences, making him berate himself and fill him with self hatred, he sometimes loses contact with reality for the briefest of periods, and these incidents have left Curtis in a vicious cycle, refusing to let anyone see how much he hates himself for what he has become.
Likes>> Horror films, sci fi, movies in general, music, Edgar Allen Poe, animals, coffee, booze, bacon, weird collectibles and trinkets, morbid history, video games, guitar, teaching himself to play other instruments, rainstorms.
Dislikes>> Psychiatrists, his father, his family in general, cold weather, vegans, health food, unbearably bad films, overly cheesy horror movies, I Am Legend.
Fears>> Being in any sort of situation that will cause any sort of episode, opening up and reminiscing on his past himself.
Hopes>> To get any of his work; writing, music or film published, produced or recognised, to learn to ride better.
Secrets>> His upbringing with his father was possibly the most traumatic experience of his life that he tries with everything he has to repress and forget.
It’s the way I’m feeling I just can’t deny
Appearance>> Curtis is attractive in that sort of "is he hot, creepy or just flat scary in a he-may-or-may-not-kill-you-while-you-sleep sort of way (he never would.) For some reason this draws the attention of many of the female gender with his "Things that go bump in the night" good looks. He is tall and lanky, standing at about 6'3, and his lack of body fat has made it utterly impossible to cope with extreme cold weather without him whining, in good nature, of course. With dark hair and dark brown eyes that while onstage he has the ability to make almost impossibly wide for that deranged lunatic look that he knows gets a good reaction, he's got a warm smile and those dark eyes are also kind and soft at the same time. Curtis can easily separate his stage persona from who he is, and offstage, as off putting as he may appear at first, he is attractive, warm and very approachable by appearance and nature, if not slowly but sure growing out mutton-chop-like sideburns for that Wolf Man type of look.
Markings>> A purple, grey and black vine sleeve that travels from the wrist of his left arm all the way to part of his collarbone, numerous scars from abuse as a small child.
But I’ve gotta let it go
Medical History>> Curtis' psychiatric afflictions would be listed here if he were actually diagnosed, but from riding, the ripped muscle in his knee, past broken finger from stupid antics, as well as a dislocated shoulder from child hood amongst broken wrist and other fractures and concussions.
Criminal History>> The odd public intoxication but nothing over a misdemeanor.
Full History>>
Born in Burbank, California, Curtis grew up with the influence of classic horror films and the likes of Vincent Price, Bela Legosi, Lon Chaney, Lon Chaney Jr. And Boris Karloff to keep him company. As a child, he grew up loving horror, yet was still a very happy, sweet boy. His father, Gregory Bennett; a military man with an alcohol problem and tendencies of explosive, violent rages, hated everything his only son was becoming. From the time he was very small up until he was finally able to leave at eighteen years of age. No matter what, his mother s very much in denial over how bad things were, feeling that somehow Curtis was the cause of making his father angry, but rather than upset her husband, his mother sadly would have rather turned a blind eye to what her child was enduring. Alone and turning to the things he understood as comfort, Curtis had finally had enough and left, having not spoken to his father since and has moved on, wishing to never acknowledge what he's been through as his own defense mechanism, though the lingering shadows of memories haunt him every day of his life, companioned by low self-esteem and self-hatred. Having been playing guitar since he was young, Curtis has always had a passion for writing about his ghoulish interests as well as entertaining through his music and the band, all of which he hopes he can make successful. While Curtis was never really raised with horses, he spent a lot of time riding with friends and learned to be quite the capable horseman, having tons of respect for these animals and appreciation for them.
We found love in a hopeless place
Pet Name>> Dr, Sawbones/Bones
Registered Name>> Dr. Sawbones, but not registered.
Age>> 3 years
Species>> Canine
Breed>> American Pit Bull Terrier
Registry>> n/a
Personality>> The irony of Bones' daunting name is an irony that Curtis finds greatly entertaining, because Dr. Sawbones is the biggest marshmallow anyone could ever meet. He represents the true pit bull nature; sweet, energetic, athletic, loving and intelligent. If he feels Curtis or anyone Bones knows well is threatened, he will act, but in the manner of charging and barking whoever is causing the distress.
History>> Curtis hadn't really been seriously searching for a dog, but going through an animal shelter, he came across a cream coloured pit bull puppy and before he knew it, the little fuzzball had wriggled its way into his heart. Since then, Bones has become a loyal, gentle and watchful companion and a dog that Curtis loves dearly.
