The Personality
Personality:
Honor is a sweet, affectionate mare. She's very gentle and has good ground manners, respecting her handler's space. Her gaits are gorgeous and big, making her an ideal hunter, with a big, flashy trot, a long walk, and a smooth canter. Her jump has a big bascule, but not too big, making it possible for her to be a good equitation mount as well. She's a very nice mover and all together a very pleasant ride. Her rider needs to make sure to keep her under them and she needs to be very collected to successfully make tight turns, preventing her from being a successful show jumper. Honor likes a still, subtle rider, and will get annoyed if her rider is too loud. Her riders in the past have worn tiny spurs while working with her to fine tune their aids, and Honor responds well to them. She has a fairly slow pace, and needs her rider to keep her at the pace they want.
Caution Around: Water - she won't step through it.
The History
Basic History:
Honor was born on a New York farm, and was handled from a young age so that she was always very comfortable around humans. She was raised to have good ground manners and was started and worked up slowly and safely. She was trained as a hunter first, taking advantage of her placid temperament and beautiful gaits. As a green horse, was leased and then bought by an experienced junior rider who rode her and continued her training on the show circuit, where she was quite successful. This rider and her trainer eventually introduced Honor to the equitation ring. Though she was a better hunter than an equitation horse, with the right rider, she was successful in the equitation ring as well.
Once this young rider was ready to move on to a different green horse to pursue another training endeavor, she sold Honor to another junior who continued to show her, but who eventually grew bored with her, more occupied by different distractions in her life. This rider only rode Honor, leaving her care to the grooms, and her trainer and parents eventually decided that this rider would be better off with a lease, and Honor was put up for sale again. At this point, Emma was looking for a horse. Honor was the fourth horse she tried, and she loved her immediately. However, she tried a couple more horses just to be sure, and came back to Honor, who she bought. Honor was moved to Emma's barn, where the pair got to know each other for a few months before both moved to Blue Ridge.
