I DREAM OF XYLOPHONES
Registered Name>> I Dream Of Xylophones
Barn Name>> Xy
Age>> 6
Sex>> Gelding
Breed>> Appaloosa
Breed Registry>> ApHC
Coat Colour>> Black & White Snow Cap
Stable Colour>> Dis Blue!
Height>> 16.2HH
Personality>> Xy is a very nervous creature unless he explicitly knows and trusts you. It has taken a long time for Jon to get him walking past strangers comfortably and he definitely isn't at the stage where you can just approach him to pet. While he isn't aggressive by any means, he will flee as quickly as possible, often blindly, and is prone to injury because of this. He's very gentle when he's comfortable with you, though can turn quickly if he feels Calypso is threatened. She is there immediately to soothe him.
Xy is surprisingly more confident under saddle. He's comfortable going out on the trails and is nowhere near as spooky. He's great with other horses and animals, often the first to greet a newbie. Jon trusts him around creatures big and small.
Caution Around>> Strangers! Do not approach unless owner is around! Do not approach Calypso unless she comes to you, he is protective if she doesn't establish contact first.
Basic History>> Xy was dumped on Jon's family acerage three years ago. The young, recently gelded appaloosa was terrified and managed to tangle himself in the fencing he was tied to. His only saving grace came in the form of a lumbering, clumsy but soothing pot bellied pig named Calypso. Once Jon was able to free the handsome creature, Xy refused to leave Calypso and fretted awfully when she wasn't in sight. While he instantly bonded with his porcine pal, it took him much longer to bond with his new owner. Jon didn't give up though, and within three months he was able to handle the gelding. A further five months he was able to start backing Xy. It was unclear what had been done with the gelding with his previous owner, though it obviously wasn't a positive experience so Jon started all over again.
Luckily, a vet was able to trace his bloodlines and get the gelding registered. While they were unable to find a previous owner, Jon was glad. He and Xy were becoming an excellent team, the gelding a lot more confident under saddle than he was on the ground. Now the main course of action is socialization, which Jon believes Blue Ridge to be a great place to complete this step. And of course, his best friend Calypso will be there every step of the way.
