Personality>> Unique is the definition of a hot horse. She needs no motivation to get going, and gets excited very easily. On the ground, she's pushy and gets very sassy. She nips quite a bit, and likes to rear while being led or ridden. She also bucks. Lunging is necessary at least once a day, and she calms down quite a bit. She'll try to get away with whatever she can, but smartens up quickly when redirected. One thing about Unique is that she loves to jump, and go fast. Unfortunately, during jumpers, she gets too excitable and ends up slipping all over the place and knocking all the jumps, which is why hunter jumper is ideal for her in the ring. She's only begun cross country, but she enjoys being able to gallop. Although dressage is on the flat, when she's focused and working with Quinn and not against her, she does very well. Unique gets along well with other horses for the most part, as long as they're not trying to take her food. Although not very food oriented, she doesn't like to share. She does best with pats and praise when she's doing well.
Although Unique and Quinn do argue quite a bit, when they work together, they become a beautiful team. Unique does like Quinn though, and listens to her best out of all the people. She likes that Quinn doesn't use spurs or whips on her, as she doesn't really need them. Despite Quinn's distaste for them, Unique loves little kids. If a little kid is leading her or riding her, she becomes this totally relaxed, chill kids horse. She also does well on trails, when she's allowed to just relax and drop her head.
Caution Around>> Needs to be worked consistently. Otherwise becomes a major problem > Leading & riding. She bucks & rears. Rears when leading. Likes to nip. Hates spurs.
Basic History>> Unique was born in a large Akhal-Teke barn in Calgary, bred for Spruce Meadows. But, as a foal, she was already displaying symptoms of being a so called 'problem horse'. She liked to nip, and when punished, would only bite harder, or turn her rump and kick. The trainers there tried everything with her, and eventually, when she was six months, left her in pasture for about a year. They had a new trainer come in who was determined to break this gorgeous filly in the field, and spent the next two and a half years trying. He managed to get her halter broke and started green breaking her, but with much force. Whips, spurs, and twists, all the time, used in a cruel fashion. They had a metal cage cribbing muzzle put on her to keep her from biting. It was made specifically so she could eat. But she was still a problem. She still took to rearing and bucking and kicking. Eventually, they gave up, and put her up for auction.
When spotted by Quinn in the auction, she was immediately purchased. Quinn was the only person who bid, as nobody else offered on this horse that was wearing a muzzle. Unique was loaded up and taken to Quinn's acreage. Quinn released Unique in a pasture, and spent many hours sitting out there to try to get this mare used to her. It took just over three months, but eventually, Unique let Quinn touch her and pet her without biting. The next year Quinn spent earning this Unique's trust, haltering her, leading her, riding her. She spent every day with the mare, and it paid off. Two years and a bit after the purchase, Quinn can ride Unique, and although she still has attitude problems, it's not out of spite as it was. It's out of her being young and energetic and stubborn. With consistent work, Unique doesn't act up as much, and her hard, hateful bites have turned into playful nips. Despite this, Quinn still keeps a warning on her stall so that nobody gets hurt on accident.
