FRANCISJACOBNORRELL
<<Played by Rob>>
Full Name>>Francis Jacob Norrell
Nicknames>>Jacob
Age>> 23rd of May 1982; 33
Staff or Student>> Staff - Librarian
House>> For students only
Gender>> Male
Sexuality>> Asexual
Face Claim>> Bertie Carvel
Personality>> Possessing a generally bubbly personality, especially when talking about something he enjoys. If something pleases him he can also occasionally give a little happy dance, and isn't typically aware of the fact that this isn't... the most socially acceptable thing to do. He could be described to an extent as an extroverted introvert - a coping mechanism in social situations without anything to do that gives him an excuse to be quiet is to talk, even if he is exhausted in 3 hours from forcing himself to be social. He can also get very easily overwhelmed by large amounts of conversastion happening around him as he tries to listen to all of it... even if he doesn't need to. Due to his Aspergers Francis could easily be described as focused (when its things that he likes), obsessed with schedules (to a point), and can be prone to panic attacks or melt downs... though more commonly melting down. He can come across as either eccentric or naieve, and often a combination of both. During periods of high pressure he can forget how to spell properly and reverts to phonetic spelling, when he's melting down he can exhibit selective mutism, he also can become touch aversive (exceptions are Charlie, or people he trusts explicitly). If it's a full melt down he can get overstimulated in terms of things touching him, especially certain types of fabric (anything with lots of texture to it such as wool or bobbly pilling polyester based clothing).
Likes>> Books, Order, Customizing Breyer Model Horses, Sticky notes (They're invaluable for making sure he doesn't forget something important), Period wear (Predominantly tail coats, top hats etc)
Dislikes>> Disorder, Show Quality Breyer Horses, Rainy weather, being spoken down to, being treated like a child
Fears>> Losing his job, Losing Charlie
Hopes>> To manage a year without melting down,
Secrets>> Has self harmed in the past
Appearance>> Relatively tall (standing about 5ft 11"), the biggest mistake you could make is in assuming that he's not got some strength to him because he's lean built. While he may not be as strong as some, he's certainly got strength in his arms, and legs (considering he has to burn Charlies energy with long walks). Often seen with his hair ruffled up and slightly messy - and his hair is black, he also often has a slight amount of stubble on his chin. What he choses to wear depends on his mood in the morning and can range from period wear (tail coat, trousers, shirt) to a jumper and comfortable jeans. He does like to wear gloves at all times of the year, very soft ones - he'll remove them when reading but it's mainly for his comfort more than anything.
Markings>> Some scars on his arms, no piercings, no tattoos
Medical History>> Mild Aspergers syndrome that can cause panic attack (rare in his case), as well as meltdowns - meltdowns normally manifest with him showing selective mutism (he will any talk to someone he trusts and its very hard for him to articulate what set him off), severe meltdowns can result in him becoming easily over stimulated and touch averse due to perceiving it as pain
Criminal History>> Nope
Full History>> Francis Jacob Norrell was born to Arabella and Julian Norrell on a stormy winters night, thankfully they'd got to hospital. His childhood was normal... or at least as normal as it could be with the then severe Aspergers that he had, and resulted in him being sent to a specialist school to try and help him deal with it, and to learn the coping strategies. He also had a support dog from age 6 as it was deemed to calm him down. One of his surefire triggers back then for a meltdown was books out of order... especially if they were put back in the wrong place while he was watching. He'd almost try and herd them into putting books in the right place in the library. He also had a keen interest in languages, often trying to teach himself as many as he could from reading. Even more interesting to him is historic languages, primarily norse though... getting books on that isn't fun.
He drifted between jobs, finding the environment too intense, too overwhelming until he was first given a chance at a small local library. The quieter environment suited him, and he gained his third dog (Charlie) when he was again between jobs looking for a librarian job. He found it, and it gave him and his dog purpose. With Charlie fully trained a change came upon their life, though one hopefully for the better as he was offered a job at BRRA, which is where we find him now.
Pet Name>> Charlie
Registered Name>> Elendil Elessar
Age>> 6
Gender>> Male
Species>> Canine
Breed>> Labrador x Border Collie
Registry>> None
Personality>> Charlie tends to be (when not working) bouncy, boisterous and ever the eternal puppy who's absolutely ball mad and wriggles his body like mad in happiness to see someone. A natural born leaner (especially if you fuss him) he's not got a mean bone in his body... though he does love cats. If by love you mean "let me play with them let me play with them its a cat its a cat I wanna play I wanna play I wanna play". The only thing he'll focus on more then a cat for playtime is a ball, if it has a squeaker even better! Underneath the playful bouncy boisterous exterior is a mild mannered dog, and this is the side he shows when he's working (he's a R.E.A.D dog), quite content to sit and rest his head on a persons lap while they read, the very picture of attention and companionship. Though don't be surprised if he's mouthing the lead and trying to carry it to take himself for a walk when he's brought in. What? Leads are great toys too! While he's not keen on car journeys, he loves the end result... just get used to him stood panting in your ear looking through the front window.
History>> Originally picked as a puppy to be trained as Francis' support dog - when he was younger his Aspergers manifested a lot more severely (its only with age that its settled down and become more mild as he's developed coping strategies to handle the difficulties it causes) - he's the second dog picked by Francis, and the third dog he's owned. He was going to be trained to be ESA, but by the time Francis had found what he deemed the 'right' dog, his Aspergers had gone from severe to mild, but he still wished to give something back to the community and help others. Originally it was going to be a visiting dog at hospitals at childrens wards and around old peoples home, but Charlie was rather too bouncy in such environments, the different smells exciting to him. When Francis was offered a job at a small library that was when he found a calling for Charlie, training him to become a R.E.A.D Dog. The quieter library environment and the relatively consistent smells meant that it was easier for Charlie to stay calm, that and plenty of fuss.
