Personality>> Bell has been a stallion fairly young, which has made him a bit macho in some of his interactions; especially around strange horses he likes to puff up and try to intimidate them. It never goes beyond posturing, though - the only time he ever injured another horse was when he was pretty much attacked. While he's not a real macho, he's not much of a pushover either. He can be convinced to do a lot, and will happily do so for his long-time rider and handler Noah, but expecting blind obedience doesn't endear you to Bell. He acts much better around people who respect him and 'ask' rather than to sheer force. He knows he's stronger than you are. As long as you feed him well, treat him well (cuddles are much appreciated in private) and stop in time, he'll work for you. Shows are an exception: when there's a big audience and that indefinable atmosphere that comes with competition, his boundaries suddenly are miles further: where a whole hour of dressage can result in a frustrated, annoyed and even angry horse; he's not afraid to give a few bucks to make his point clear.
Caution Around>> Motor vehicles; after his accident motorbikes in particular but motorized traffic in general can do anything from make him tense and skittish to a full-out reaction of fear and panic.
Basic History>> Bell was 'engineered' by Noah's father as a cheering up gift and surprise, breeding one of the former race horses he had worked with with his son's Connemara mare. His timing was a little off, resulting in an autumn foal, but Noah cared little for that 'problem'. Although his owner still had his (health) problems from time to time, Bell was showered with love and attention for his first year, before he was sent out to pasture for two subsequent summers to grow up. Noah broke him in himself when Bell was four, under the watchful eye of his coach, and ever since then they have never been far from each other. Bell was initially trained for dressage, then a spot of hunter classes before he graduated to actual jumping when he was six years old and physically strong and fit enough to handle that daunting task.
He took to it with gusto, and they often placed and even won when they showed; even at the WEF. Noah was careful with his friend and didn't progress to the levels as soon as he could. Five months ago they would finally debut in a CSI 5* show, but an accident when the combination crossed to the road to the venue delayed those dreams. Although Bell was quick to shy away when the biker came too close, he wasn't fast enough to avoid injury, landing on a fencing post. Although the fencing post missed his major organs and arteries, he did require surgery, and was on stable rest for four months. The past month he has been slowly returned to work, building up his condition again.
