While her father stood there watching, Mia stood there almost thoughtlessly grooming Crystal. The paint stood still like she did every other time she did anything with her rider, except of course for running barrels. Currying the mare's face with the curry mitt the six year old didn't really know what she was even doing. Just going through the motions at that point. Taking a deep breath, Mia walked the mitt over to the groom kit and swapped it for a brush. Brushing off Crystal's neck and face first, Mia was taught to start forward and work her way back. Something she had stuck to since she could actually groom a horse by herself. Taking her step stool the little girl leaned over the mare's back as she had done many times before and brushed the dust and dirt down to her hindquarters. Next her legs and barrel, the Paint mare had no objections to anything the six year old asked of her and that was why they got along great with each other.
Finishing up the grooming, now all that was left was the hooves. Retrieving the hoof pick, Mia asked Crystal to lift her hooves. It didn’t take very long to finish the quad of hooves, but that was mainly because the horse was inside all day. Moving towards the groom kit the little girl put the hoof pick back in its place and picked up the kit. Walking it back to the tack room, now it was time for the tack. Although Mia really did love to ride getting ready for it wasn’t exactly her favorite thing. The Western saddle, which weighed almost as much as she did if not equal, balanced on the girl’s arms. Putting the giant saddle on the saddle rack, she went through her process of getting ready. Making sure the blanket was in the right place, checking the cinch to see that it wouldn’t get tangled or caught on something; everything was in place and ready. Carefully moving up the two steps, which put her at the top of the stool, the little girl slowly placed the saddle on the mare’s back.
Although her father was there, she was very independent she liked that she could do it by herself. Now that that was done the six year old fixed the cinch and placed Crystal’s boots on and then her bridle. Patting her neck, Mia walked over to the White Oak barn with her father. ”Ready girl?” ”Put Crystal there.” He pointed to the cross ties. Mia put the mare in the cross ties as her father told her to do. Chris proceeded groom Dreamer, who didn’t like to stand still, Dreamer loved to sway and move as much as she loved being under saddle. Currying off the Appaloosa quickly making sure all the dirt patches were dissolved. Brushing her off making sure when he patted her dust didn’t fly. Picking her hooves quickly the mare was already out on the trail from Trail Class. Replacing the groom kit, Chris got the tack for the mare. Dreamer tossed her head and stomped her hoof. The equine let out a long breath. ”You done?” The man asked sarcastically. Sitting the blue saddle pad on the equine’s back, she had no changed emotions, physically at least.
Then again she never did, she really didn’t mind a lot of things. Tacking the mare up with speed, Chris had done it many times and so knew what had to be done, in an exact order. Now it wasn’t scientific, but the man had it down to a science. Something that came with experience, something he had a good amount of. Checking the cinch again to make sure the saddle was in place and it was tight enough so that Chris wouldn’t fall off, which had happened multiple times before. Adjusting the mare’s boots, it was something that the man made sure of; it was something that he did at all times. He didn’t ever think about it, now it was programed into him. Sliding the bridle onto Dreamer’s head and the bit into her mouth, Chris did up the throatlatch. Looking to his daughter he cocked his head towards the door. Having her father check the mare’s cinch making sure it was tight enough, which it was. Now they were ready. Walking Crystal out of the barn Mia looked at her father with puppy dog eyes. Helping her up into saddle as he did every other time they rode together, which was always, Chris vaulted up into his own saddle. Once he helped her up into the saddle, Mia slid her feet into the stirrups and started walking towards the trail. Dreamer side stepped and then broke into a trot catching up with his daughter and her horse. Dreamer side stepped and then broke into a trot catching up with his daughter and her horse. Riding the Green Hill Trail like it was nothing, because it wasn’t, and then there was the fact that Dreamer rode it earlier today and Crystal just loved to be on the trail. Getting to the end of the trail the meadow opened up in front of them. The six year old let the mare loose and Crystal sped up into a trot and then into a lope. The swinging motion was the rider’s favorite and so she let her mount do what she pleased. His daughter was so small not too long ago and now she was able to ride a horse without much trouble. Although she needed supervision, he was proud of her for being able to handle herself the way she did.
