Chamounix Z
Registered Name>> Chamounix Z
Barn Name>> Bijou
Age>> 8
Sex>> Mare
Breed>> Holsteiner
Breed Registry>> Studbook Zangersheide
Coat Colour>>Bay
Stable Colour>>Navy
Height>>16.2
Personality>> Bijou has a heart of gold, and will do her best to get her rider out of sticky situations. As an earnest trier, she will jump nearly anything from anywhere, at the expense of crashing through a jump or dropping a rail. She is scopey and capable, and her only fault is depending heavily on her rider for clear direction. If a rider sits back and allows Bijou to take over, she gets strung out and nervous, as she isn't the best horse to put on autopilot. She is sweet and fairly patient on the ground, and if a very light rider gets on (i.e. a child for a few laps around the arena) she will lower her head and droop her ears and amble on a long rein. She likes turnout (a bit too much) and can be hard to catch if she's fresh.
Caution Around>> running/barking dogs (she doesn't mind if they're quiet, but she is wary), introducing a new horse (she is obnoxious about squealing)
Basic History>>
Chamounix Z was bred and born in Belgium, a result of the stallion Cassini II, and a mare owned by Kip's grandfather. Kip had always known of the mare, and had watched her grow from birth, though he hadn't had a hand in actually riding her until later. Her birth was the year that Kip was assisting with foal watch for the first time. He was eager for a late bedtime, and Klaus allowed him to patrol up and down the barn aisle for signs of a mare giving birth. Kip was terrified and fascinated with the tiny foal, and though he was not permitted into the stall, Kip remembers giggling as the tiny foal whuffed his palm for the first time after she stood.
As a five year old, Bijou was entered in young jumper classes and proved her talent in good company. That same summer, thirteen year-old Kip did not pair well at first with Bijou, as Kip was still figuring out how to ride horses like her. She took off with him several times during their first summer working together. Grandfather Klaus had prepared the mare for eventual sale, and as she was well-bred, she was sure to throw handsome offspring. Their second summer together, the mare was more mature (as was Kip) and as such yielded more effective rides.
Kip showed great progress and was permitted to take her in jumping classes. Kip was heartbroken to leave the mare and all of their progress that summer, so Klaus agreed to import the mare to Nevarra Equestrian at a reduced cost as a reward for all of Kip's hard work. While Annemarie was not too pleased to be shelling out money while they had many perfectly nice horses at home for Kip to work with, her father expressed that Kip deserved the horse, and the mare deserved a rider like Kip.
