Ryan rubbed Daredevil's well-muscled shoulder as he looked over her tack, visually checking to make sure that everything was in place. After fixing a fold in the saddle pad and re-tightening the girth, Ryan buckled on his helmet and unclipped the mare from the cross-ties where she was standing. Leading her out of the barn, he glanced up at the nice sky, dotted here and there with puffy white clouds. It was nice weather, but still, Ryan decided he would rather be in the indoor arena, where he would be less apparent, and hopefully less people would come in, since it was such a nice day.
After entering the arena, which was blissfully empty, Ryan looped Daredevil's reins around the fence and went in search of the storage room, which he had never had need of using before, but he wanted to try what they had done in class again, just for some fun, because it had been rather easy, and he was starting to think that he might like to try some jumping, before he graduated and had to leave for good. He knew that Daredevil was a jumper by training, although she had done well in the past year, with only the flat, but having a semi-experienced mare helped him find his own stride as he planned on moving on past Beginner English.
Finally finding his quarry, Ryan picked up two of the trotting poles, hefting them for a moment before he added a third to his arms. He had done some research, in the hopes of learning more about how he could practice, and had found a site that mentioned that three poles were ideal for starting, as it would let the horse recover if they stepped on one of the poles, and he had decided to follow the site's advice.
Returning to the arena, Ryan placed the poles inside of the track, as he had seen Ms. Carr doing. He paced out about the distance that the teacher had had them at before, which had worked for him, then walked back to Daredevil. Straightening out her reins, and checking her cinch again, he mounted, then asked the mare for a walk around the track, feeling her loosen up as the rounds wore on.
