Karl and Captain trotted ahead of his mother and brother, who were settling back into the truck to pull it around and up to the White Oak Barn.
Captain whuffed a breath as he surveyed the area, eager to sniff everything and make a friend. Karl sat down on the grass to the side of the barn, though the ground was cold and a bit wet. He felt the moisture seep through his pants and he stood quickly again. Thinking they were going somewhere, Captain leapt up and wagged his tail.
As the truck rumbled up the driveway, Bijou whinnied again- waiting for other horses to answer her. Kip groaned, and Annemarie gave him the same crooked smile he had given her earlier.
"She'll be fine. You guys are going to do great. I just wish it were a bit closer to home, that's all."
"Yeah. I know," Kip massaged his knee. He was so tired of sitting in the truck cab, but he really wanted to ride as soon as he could. It was very cold out- Bijou would be fresh. Annemarie pulled the truck up and set the parking break and she turned the engine off. They climbed out of the cab, and set to work. Kip's main concern was getting Bijou off of the trailer and into her stall so she could have water.
Bijou was all-too excited to be out, she backed so quickly, Annemarie had to skip out of the way. Bijou shook her neck as her forelock fell over an eye. She was alert, craning her elegant neck to take in her surroundings. Kip began leading her up to the barn, and she followed with a spring in her step. Her hoofbeats clacked against the aisle way floor, and he found the stall with her show name labeled on it. As he led her in, she yanked herself to the water and splashed around in it before taking a drink.
