Olivia finished brushing Goldie and started tacking her up, struggling for a moment with the western saddle before she found a comfortable position and could heft it up onto the colourful saddle pad that the mare wore. Shrugging the bridle over her shoulder, Olivia grabbed her helmet and stuck it under her arm, before she grabbed the lunge line and clipped it to the mare's halter, exchanging it for the cross ties. She knew that the mare needed lunging before she was ridden, one of her minor quirks, but one that the girl didn't mind. Using the lunge line as a temporary lead rope, Olivia made her way into the spring sunlight, leading the palomino mare behind her.
They made their way over to the reining arena, which was blissfully empty, despite the fact that it was nearing noon on the weekend. Olivia hung Goldie's bridle onto one of the fence posts before placing her helmet on the outside of the fence, by the same post. Then she walked over to Goldie, checking the saddle that it wasn't too tight or too loose, before sending the mare out. Goldie was wonderful on the lunge, moving with a simple vocal command. As Olivia slowly asked the mare to move through her paces, the sunlight made Goldie's coat shine, showing where her name had come from. As Olivia called for the mare to move into a canter, the mare bucked, kicking up her heels and letting out a bit of spunk before she calmed down, resuming her pace. Olivia smiled at the action, knowing that the mare needed to let off some steam before she could be ridden, but that letting her have fun while doing it wouldn't be harmful. After a few rounds, she switched the mare around, asking her to repeat the process before she even thought about riding.
