Full History>> Cora was actually not born in the states, but she was actually raised in England. Her parents raised her just outside London, Cora was the name of her great- grandmother Cora Winters. The name Torrance was actually not a family name, but was in fact the name of her father's eventing horse. Don't ask why her mother allowed that to slip by. She got the nick name Throttle from her eventing days when she was at university. She was one of the fastest qualifiers on the team. She started riding at the age of 8,she would do little pony shows to start, and rode the horses on her grandfather's farm. She grew up showing and competing, but also her parents wanted her to have a life outside of riding. So Cora took up debate and dance when she was in her early teens.
She knew that her passion would always be riding, and her parents could see that. For her sixteenth birthday, her parents got Cora her first eventer. A Thoroughbred by the name of Persephone. That mare was a rocket, and she and Cora would go far. Competing in all the shows, and earning points and ranking. After University, Cora and Persephone continued to travel internationally and winning. Her mother died of breast cancer before Cora left for the states, and she held back on riding for a year to grieve. Her name almost faded from the lists, but then she made a comeback again. She got all the way to competing at Rolex, and Cora could see her dreams of Olympic gold. For queen and country! Coming over the final jumps, Persephone took a spill and threw Cora off of her. Cora split her knee cap, and Persephone broke the canon bone in her leg.
It took some time for Cora to bounce back from that accident, she went through rehab for her knee, but she never lost her drive for horses. She took up the reins again with her new horse Gatsby, and started teaching at a small farm. One day, she got a unsuspected call from someone in America. Teaching cross country at a riding academy. Cora didn't know what to say, should she accept, was she even qualified to teach cross country? They told her they wanted someone who had the experience in the field and the drive. It took her a few weeks, but she accepted. Now here she is 4 years later at Blue Ridge teaching some of the brightest minds.
