The best word to describe Alex might be steady. The man doesn't seem to get angry often, and his entire being just seems strong and stable. Alexander isn't a big talker, he doesn't see a lot of point in pointless conversations. However, he's an excellent listener and will gladly lend an ear for anyone who needs it. Alex is accepting and gentle - there's a quietness about him that puts most people at ease. He's not a very tense or aggressive fellow and is pretty approachable. Despite his quiet manner, Alex does hold an air of authority. It's rarely seen, but on occasion Alexander will find himself wielding his natural command to quiet an unruly student or make a point.
Alexander's faults are less readily obvious than his strengths. He's really a decent guy, and his goodness is accentuated by his downfalls not being easily observable. Alex is very easily attached to people, and he does not deal with betrayal or abandonment well. He can be a needy and jealous partner or friend, which often drives people away. Alex is also not a very creative person - while he would love to be an artist or musician he just doesn't really have the knack for it. He's working hard to try to learn piano and guitar decently, but it's an uphill battle.

Dogs - Alex likes pretty much any dog, except for small ones. He has little use for the small toy type dogs.
Swimming - A way that he likes to keep in shape. Alexander is an excellent swimmer, and was even on the local swim team while he was in grade school.
Simplicity - Alexander isn't a fan of complicated things. He much prefers his activities to be simple and easy to follow. His living style is indicative of this preference - Alexander keeps his things neat and to the point.
Aesthetics - He appreciates the beauty in things. His belongings, while simple, stay running along the same theme.
Creativity - Alex is always in awe of people who can create things. He loves art and music.

The cold - Alexander has little use for cold weather and finds it frustrating and uncomfortable.
Bullies - He hates bullies in all shapes and forms. If Alex is faced with one, that is one of the few times that his body language might become aggressive.
Extra tack on horses - Alex sees no need for all the extra straps and ties that people like to put on their horses. Just give him a saddle, bridle, and girth and Alex is happy.
Animal meat - He's a vegetarian, and while he tries not to be obnoxious about it, Alex still hates the idea of animals being killed for anyone's food.

Alexander, when he was young, tried to contact his birth parents. At 14 years old, he snuck out of the house to meet up with a woman to claimed to be his mother. However, he's got very bad vibes from her and ended up running away from her. He still refuses to believe that the woman he met up with was his true birth mother.
Appearance>>
Alex stands at 5'10". His build is naturally somewhat lean, but because of all the riding and outside work he does he's decently muscled. Alex has dark skin - although he's not exactly sure of his heritage. His hair is black and somewhat curly and Alex usually keeps short facial hair. His eyes are a dark, rich brown, and his eyelashes are freakishly thick and dark.
Alex is most often seen in jeans and a flannel shirt. If the weather is too hot, it's likely to see him wearing a loose athletic shirt instead. He doesn't really know how to dress up, and often attends events in a variation of whatever he'd been wearing at the barn that day. However, when the occasion calls, Alex can really rock a tuxedo. He's always wearing a simple leather bracelet, it never seems to come off his wrist.

Alex has mostly avoided injuries, except for getting shot in the shoulder that one time. Other than that, he's pretty clear of injuries or major illnesses.

Alex was adopted at birth. That he's always known. It was something that his parents told him from a young age, so it was never a surprise. Alex lived a happy childhood, although he was always curious about his birth parents. The older he got, the worse his obsession became, until eventually he ended up contacting a woman who claimed to be his mother. The meeting didn't go well, however, and after that day Alex's life spiraled downward. He didn't really have a reason for getting in trouble and disappointing his parents, but time after time he made the same mistakes. Alex began to get mixed up in the wrong crowds and he ended up with a bad group of people. During a heated argument between two of Alexander's "friends", shots ended up being fired and the young man was left with a shoulder wound.
The incident awakened Alex to what he was doing to himself, and the young man turned his life around. He started riding horses, of all things, and quickly learned that he was a natural at it. Alex started training horses for other people and found that he could make a living doing this. Instead of channeling his need for acceptance and worth into bad friend groups, Alex found his satisfaction in fixing problem horses and teaching young stock how to behave.
Alexander never did go to college, instead focusing his attention on training horses. He got a side job at the local library as well, and found he really loved working there too. Alex's life was pretty much perfect. When he was about 20 years old, he got into a serious relationship with another man called Daniel. They were very close and seemed to be set for life, when Dan suddenly broke up with Alex, leaving the man heartbroken. Since then, Alexander has been reluctant to get romantically close to anyone else. After finding out about Blue Ridge, Alex decided it was the perfect next step in his career.

Penni defies every stereotype one might have on first sight. The dog is very friendly and sweet, she doesn't have a mean bone in her body. Penni is very energetic though, and is always running around and moving. She loves quiet people, but is a little skittish around smaller, loud kids. Penni gets along excellently with other dogs and loves to play. When she calms down, Penni is a big snuggler and tries to fit in laps, even if she doesn't really fit.

Penni's history is largely unknown. She was adopted by Alex from the shelter about a year ago, and bonded tightly to him. She doesn't seem to ever have been abused, and isn't really skittish about anything.
