My TWH mare Gypsie is going to be nineteen years old on April 18th. My uncle bred her to a black TWH named Bear (registered "Mack's Alabama Bear") for my sixteenth birthday present, and the resulting foal (Dakota) is now seven years old.
I've always wanted to breed her again to my absolute favorite TWH stallion, a chestnut named Leroy (registered "Fast Chance") who is owned by the same man/out of business breeder who owns my gelding's sire.
I don't know why I've always loved Leroy. His personality is a bit standoff-ish and he's scarily intelligent, and so are his foals. He's known to throw a bit higher strung of a personality, too, and his conformation isn't perfect (but what horses is?)... but he's my dream stallion.
And he's one of only three TWH stallions in the United States with his bloodlines, according to his owner (unless some of his past colts have been kept as studs).
And I get a free breeding to him, because his owner considers me as a granddaughter.
I'm choosing to breed my mare again because this year or the next will be, I fear, the last two years I can safely breed her. She has aritheritis and is on a joint supplement, and I'm afraid that within the next five years, she may have to be retired. Dakota is a great gelding, but it's hard to ride him safely in a group of horses, because of his aggression issues and insecurities and I want another foal to raise up to become my main riding horse after my mare is retired, she's already partially retired.
I'm also hoping for a filly. Leroy throws 50/5o colts to filly ratio's.
So, without further ado, here's pictures! The breeding will be done whenever my mare comes into heat.
My Mare, Gypsie
The Stud, Leroy
Leroy's last two foals (Annie and Junebug, both fillies, ages 5 and 3, respectively)
And just for fun, here's Dakota! (Gypsie's first foal)
