The holiday break had left Gwen with plenty of work to do - since students were away, she'd been stepping in to help care for the horses who had stayed behind. However, all of the unassigned horses in her barn weren't show jumpers, and she couldn't exactly take a student's horse out into the arena - Stall cleaning, feeding, turnout yes, but riding a student's horse wasn't appropriate.
That is, except for one student, and that's why she had Rowen tacked up and in hand. Ben had plans to go into town on the academy van anyway, so he'd been amenable to the idea of her taking the gelding out for a ride. Now, Gwen faced the arena she'd set up, with a few jumps set up as an across the center exercise, and a couple more spaced around the rest of the arena, she wouldn't lack for possibilities. She hadn't wanted to go too complicated, since she and Rowen only had a basic working relationship, but it would be enough to have fun.
Leading the gelding into the center of the arena, she checked his girth one last time and then boosted herself into the saddle, sending the lusitano around the edge of the arena to start their warmup.
