Date of Birth>> 05/04/2005; May the 4th (be with you)
Staff or Student>> Student
House>> Green Ribbon House
Gender>> Female
Sexuality>> Heterosexual
Face Claim>> Emi Takei
Personality>> Kyoto comes off as being shy and a touch insecure when people first meet her, though she uses this as a front so that she can get a read of things rather than rushing in like a bull in a China shop. She just finds herself unsure in a new environment and has a habit of hiding from her problems and taking time to analyze things, rather than facing them head on.
She isn't a social butterfly and will remain strong with a group of friends, once she's found her place in her group she is content to stay there, which is normally the position of the mediator.
While very practical, she loves fantasy, as she grew up learning about the world by reading books and imagining herself in the place of the people she read about. And if people can't find her in her room, she's probably lying on the grass, nose buried in a book; fiction or nonfiction, she doesn't care.
Likes>> * Tradition
* Origami (great way for wasting time)
* Books
* Painting
* Gardening (be it working in a vegetable or flower garden, or working in her zen garden)
* Cooking
* Being outside
* Calligraphy
Dislikes>> * Being enclosed (she's not claustrophobic, but now she knows the world is bigger than four walls, she doesn't want to be blocked from it again)
* Dogs
* Impatience
* Violence
* Circuses (the ones with performing animals)
* Too much noise
Fears>> * Being buried alive
* Being sent back to Japan (has nightmares about it)
Hopes>> * To compete internationally
* To be someone her parents would be proud of
Secrets>> * Suffers from nightmares (if she has a room mate, won't be a secret for long)
* Swapped exam papers with her friend because she knew that Barbara wasn't going to pass
* Feels guilty for being born a girl
Appearance>> It is said that Kyoto is a carbon copy of her mother; light of skin and dark of hair and eye, which could be the reason that she was cast aside so swiftly after her birth.
Her naturally straight hair, which falls just below her shoulders is more the colour of rich coffee than black, but the brown is only noticeable when the sun is shining through it, is often pulled back in a pony tail. She has expressive brown eyes that tell people she sees more than they are showing her, some have described her eyes as belonging to an old soul.
While she doesn't have a lot to say in the height department, she carries herself around as though she is taller than her 5'2 and if you tick her off, you will feel like she is looking down her nose at you.
She is conservative in her style of clothes, though that isn't much of a surprise as she wore a uniform since the day she could be dressed in clothes and wore the same style until she was sent to the States. While she still loves her sailor-style uniforms, and her kimonos, she also loves wearing the western style of clothing too and loves hanging out in jeans of her favourite pair of dungarees.
Markings>> Burn scars on wrists and arms, scar on bottom of foot from being stitched up. She's also partial to giving herself calligraphy "tattoos" when bored.
Medical History>> Normal child illnesses. Had foot stitched after stepping on broken glass. Treated for burns while helping in the kitchen. Minor bumps and grazes from falling off ponies.
Full History>> Akira and Minato had a loving relationship. She was a photo journalist for a nature magazine and he the owner of a multi-million dollar company, the only thing missing from their life was a child. After five years marriage is became clear that Akira was not going to conceive and the Kimura family believed that she would only bring bad luck to the family.
It was after a trip to the Congo, with her husband, that Akira discovered that she was pregnant and when the scans showed that she held a girl, the pressure from her husband's family only grew as they believed that the unborn child was cursed. After a rather difficult pregnancy and labour, Akira passed away. Devastated at the death of his wife Minato began to believe what his family had said about a curse, after all the woman had given birth to a girl when he needed a son to honour the family, so he hired a nanny to care for the girl and all but kept her locked away from the world.
Young Kyoto's life was a little different to that of other children, as her world consisted of no more than four walls and a courtyard, though her nanny taught her all she needed to know as she grew up. It was when the girl was nine that Minato decided that he could not keep the girl hidden from the world anymore, nor could he hide his displeasure in her, so he bought her a one-way ticket to America and put her on a plane, with instructions when she arrived in America, that she was to be taken to his brother's.
Half way across the world, Riku (Rick) Kimura returned to his estate on the outskirts of Casper Wyoming from the last eleven years he'd spent in the Himalayas training with the Tibetan monks. He hadn't been in touch with any of his family, so it came as a shock to him to find a girl waiting on his doorstep when he returned.
Kyoto was astonished, and more than a little terrified, by how big the world really was, and that it was no longer just pictures in a book. She went from reading about princesses in story books, to becoming one.
Once she was in America, it seemed that anything the girl wanted, she merely had to ask for it. She attended the best school that money could buy, she showed a tiny interest in horses and she suddenly had a string of ponies - so that her friends could ride too when they came to visit - along with a collection of instructors who came three times a week to give her lessons. She had a sensei who came in to teach her a variety of martial arts, including Yabusame (a type of mounted archery, that helped a samurai learn concentration, discipline, and refinement).
As she approached the end of junior high, her jumping instructor mentioned a boarding school in Kentucky that had a very good equestrian program, and after giving it much thought, Kyoto when to speak with her Oji about the possibility of her attending the school. Never one to stand in the girl's way, Rick got things moving and sent in the application to see if Ky could be accepted into the Academy for her Freshman year.
