Karina grinned as she left the round pen and patted Cas' neck. He had been quite excitable that morning, and so she'd let him warm up without tack, running in circles and working out his over-enthusiasm. Now they were ready for tacking, and then some actual work. She had brought it with her earlier in a wheelbarrow, and tacked Cas up quickly, not wanting him to stand too long. Once the saddle and boots were in place, she clipped on her helmet and hopped onto the palomino's back.
She hummed as she pointed the horse in the direction of the cross country courses. Cas' ears flickered back and then away again, listening to all of the sounds of the academy in the summer - Other riders in the arenas, birds in the trees. As they reached the warm-up field, Karina started a shortened warm-up routine, more for their teamwork than a need to physically prepare their muscles.
