Personality>> Khyona is a gentle soul, whose biggest fear in the world is being left alone again. She very much enjoys having a companion to lean on emotionally, whether that's a horse in the pastures or a human on her back. She can occasionally be possessive over grain and does best when fed that separately, but otherwise coexists well with a variety of personalities. She is unflappable out on the trail, splashing through puddles and scaring up birds without a care in the world. She doesn't do much more than a trot, though! That's the fastest gear she'll show under saddle.

Basic History>> Khyona was well-treated throughout her life, born to a pair of empty nesters and raised by the wife, not expected to do more than be a gentle trail horse and take the occasional log as a future replacement for her dam. That was all well and good, and Khyona was well suited to that. Years passed without incident, and Khyona knew no other way of life. Life, however, had other plans, and around her fifteenth year of life, the husband of the couple passed away. The wife's mental status, already frail by that point, slipped even more, and the feeding started to become every other day, and then even longer gaps.
By the time the couple's adult children visited again, and realized that one of the horses was still on the property, Khyona was emaciated and in serious need of veterinary care. Unable to attend to her themselves, they reached out to a local rescue, who nursed her back to health. She was a gentle giant, still, only starved for love. That was where Tux found her, while looking for new Foal Handling subjects. Something about the mare captured his attention, and she came home to Blue Ridge, to be his trail companion once more with plenty of love.
