Kona grinned as she rubbed Mary's face, "I missed you too, girl." She had enjoyed being home, and had made a couple new friends to keep in touch with on her family's rides, but now it was time to get back into the swing of things on campus.
She decided that a trail ride would do the both of them good - Of course, the mare had been taken care of by Dr. Carr, but since they'd be riding together for the next year, it would be good to remind the grade horse about some teamwork under saddle. After a thorough brushing and a quick tacking up, Kona left a note for Dr. Carr on the whiteboard and then pointed Mary in the direction of the trails. An easy one, to start out with, she figured.

Feeling a little adventurous, and it being too hot to be out in the open to ride, Ky had a word with Ms Carr about taking the mare she rode out on the trails. Once happy with the idea of where she was going, she tacked Ella up, clipped her helmet under her chin, and led the mare out of the barn. After she had checked the girth and mounted, she squeezed the mare forward and they headed down the path toward the trail.
She could see another horse and rider ahead of them on the trail. "Rider behind you." She said, loudly enough to announce them being there, but not so loud as to be shouting.

Kona grinned at the trails - It was easy to remember that she wasn't in Alaska anymore, but the scenery was no less beautiful here. Just different, a different shade of green. She smiled even more as she heard someone behind her call out, and raised a hand in acknowledgement as she guided Mary to the right side of the trail, making space for the other rider to pass them or join them, as she wished.

As the other rider moved her horse over, Ky was stuck with what she should do next. She hadn't exactly done well in mixing with her peers since her arrival here, so she hadn't ridden the mare with others yet, and she was unsure of how Ella would react to walking passed another horse.
shaking her head at her own uncertainties, she gave Ella her head, and allowed the mare to walk forward. The mare seemed happy enough when they were riding two abreast on the trail, and not wanting to seem like a complete snob, she checked the Hanoverian a little, to stop her from striding off. "Hello." She said with a small smile. "I am Kyoto. You have a very beautiful horse." The other girl's response would be their cue to ride on, or not.

Kona grinned at the girl as Ella came into view, "Hey!" She smiled at the compliment, "Thanks, her name is Mary. I'm Kekona, but you can call me Kona - Everyone does." She grinned, "It's pinto trail riding day, apparently. Ella is gorgeous as always too." She kept a hand on Mary's reins, making sure the mare stayed to her side of the trail. Not that she was worried about Mary instigating anything, but rather the opposite - Mary had the bad habit of not leaving enough personal space next to another horse, if left to her own devices.
