The Personality
Personality: Even at the ripe age of 17 years old, Spider is definitely never a dull moment. She has the personality of pony in a horse's body, always stubborn and ready to test you. She would be considered an intermediate mount, because though she is safe and doesn't spook, she will pull out all the tricks. Your leg comes off partway through a line? Better duck to the side. Your position tips just slightly ahead of her movement? The brakes go on. She's very sensitive to her rider's cues, whether they were on purpose or not. Also, never jump on with spurs. She will bolt with spurs.
She has a special lock on her stall door to keep her in, though it definitely does not always work. Don't ever think about tacking up with just a stall rope across the door way. She can and will get under or over it. She's sweet as can be on the ground, and loves to groom and lick her rider as you brush.
Caution Around: Always always use her stall lock. NO SPURS. Jumping bat okay.
The History
Basic History: Spider was started on the Reid's farm as one of their racers at a young age, but she never excelled at racing. She was fast, but did not do well running in a pack and would drop back, losing her the race. After only a few starter races, the Reid's pulled her from their string and sold her to a local trainer as a schooling horse. She lived with this trainer for 13 years and was trained in a little bit of everything, though mostly show jumping and some eventing. Spider took to the jumping immediately, and with a confident rider, will pull a top ribbon everytime.
When Deanna was preparing to go to Blue Ridge, her father contacted the trainer to see if she would be willing to sell Spider back to them. Because Spider was so valuable to her show and schooling string, she didn't come cheap.. But nothing is too expensive for daddy's little girl, right? Spider and Deanna haven't had a chance to bond and have only ridden together a few times, so there will be a steep learning curve.
