The Personality
Personality: Joker is one of the sweetest, most respectful geldings. He has excellent manners and is exceptionally patient and forgiving should his rider make a mistake. Perhaps his greatest downfall is his tendency to be overly opinionated concerning suggestions from his rider as well has his belief that sometimes, he does know more than whoever is on his back. Due to his outrageous size and power, this makes him potentially dangerous at times although luckily, he is very expressive in his face and most equine-inclined individuals are able to recognize when he is getting out of control. On the rare occasion this personality trait overpowers his normally quiet nature, it is best to take a step back and work on simpler and more basic skills. On the positive side, Joker is exceptionally competitive and is known for his love of the show ring. The minute he enters the ring, it is as though he knows where he is and what he is doing, at that point, he turns it on. And when Joker is on, there is nothing he can't, or for that matter, won't, do to win.

The History
Basic History: Joker was bred at a local eventing farm for the purpose of combining the classic and beautiful lines Hanoverian's create in Dressage, with the stamina and speed of the Thoroughbred for cross country and the jumpers. He was started under saddle at the age of three and took to his training well. He competed in the lower levels of the eventing world, and even dabbled in hunter/jumper land during his green season. He initially belonged to the farm's teenage daughter who lost interest in the sport, and Joker as well. Her mother, seeing the potential in her daughter's gentle giant, took him on instead. We all know, green plus green equals black and blue, and the relationship between the mother and Joker broke and shattered once the usually perfect gelding began to "lose his touch." He refused fences, lost his beautiful natural form, knocked rails, and became an anxious and unnerved animal. The mother subsequently, decided the horse was incouragable. She then sold him (at a ridiculously low price for a horse with impeccable foreign lines) for a rock bottom price to a girl she was told posessed a certain tough with horses no on else wanted. The girl was Ellie Winchester.
It took time, but after a year of slow and steady rehabilitation, Ellie and Joker became unstoppable. Her dreams of becoming a top grand prix rider were rekindled in the heart of troubled but competitive gelding when Ellie decided to attend Blue Ridge.
