Here are this year's lot of rescue horses. Things have changed on how you get into the class. This year, you need to PM Dr Demeter Carr and tell her in 200 words or more, what your experiences are with working with horses, which horse you would like to work with and your plan of attack. You will then get a return PM, right before class is about to start, letting you know her decision. Your "letter" to the veterinarian will be marked on spelling and grammar.

BUMBLE BEE

Personality: Bright and spunky. This little prima-donna won't take rubbish from anyone. She had to be at the top of the pecking order or else she will lose it. Unknown what she's like under the saddle, but on the ground, don't get yourself between her and anything she can crush you against.

The History
Basic History: This pretty pony turned up at the surprise of her dam's owners. And since they had no proper understanding of how to raise a foal, they treated the foal as they would a puppy and allowed her to get away with murder. As she got older, from one home to another, her training, although it progressed enough to break her in - and not nicely - she was never taught to stop pushing people around. Demeter found her at an auction, right after she reaered up at a family, and decided that since she had obviously had a rider at some point, it would be possible to break her out of her naughtiness.

The History
Basic History: There is nothing wrong with Grace's past. She was raised and handled with the care and firmness that a horse deserves. It was as she moved from owner to owner that her habits began to develop. They were subtle at first and then she would be taking a jumping course perfectly to suddenly be bucking her way around it. It is unknown whether her intention is to dump her rider or not, but there are no triggers to her bucking, it just happens.

Basic History: Em's history is sketchy at best. What is known of her is that it is impossible to tie her up. No matter what she is tied to, she will sit back and snap her rope - even if she had more than one rope. From the scars on her nose it is evident that someone tired to put the rope over her nose to break the habit and obviously it didn't change anything.

The History
Basic History: Lu's original owners were Star Wars fans - thus his name. They purchased him from a backyard dealer who didn't tell them a lot about the gelding's past. It was when he started shaking his head that the problems began after going from one trainer to another, they all said the same thing. The pony was just naughty and needed a stronger bit
to stop the shaking. His owners tried the stronger bit and it just made things worse to the point that he also started spinning and bucking.

Personality: Fish seems very shy and reserved, but in truth, he isn't. To be exact, he is uncertain of everything, since his mother and constant companion passed away. Because of this, he acts like a newborn colt at times, scared of his shadow. His owner claimed that he had been a 'good' horse before his mother's death, but that side of him hasn't shown up since then. His confidence in the world has been shattered.

The History
Basic History: Fish was born and bred at a riding school. Unfortunaltey, Fish and his dam were owned by a rather wealthy boarder and she didn't see the point in removing the yearling from his dam after he had been gelded and weaned. It got to the point where the gelding would freak out every time his dam was taken away from him and to keep him settled the woman would ride the mare with him in the arena, so the gelding taught himself to jump at a very young age. AS the years went past and the mare and gelding were still kept together. When the mare died, the gelding suddenly became withdrawn and the woman couldn't handle him, so he was sent off to an auction.

The History
Basic History: Dynamite was born on a PMU farm. The farm owners put the foals into a container like stable - no sound, light or compassion. Those that survive are feed - still with no contact from their prison guards - and then once old enough are sold to the meat man.

Luckily for this guy he was found by an organization, and when they couldn't do anything with him, as he has had no sensorial experiences and flies into a rage at the smallest thing, they contacted Demeter and here he is.

Drifting Away

The Personality
Personality: Ziggy is a great horse, with her near perfect ground manners and she's a mother hen when it comes to her rider, as she always takes good care of who is riding her, as long as they don't give her an excuse to tip them off, making sure not to squish them against anything. She is known to do airs above ground....even if you don't ask it of her - in other words, she randomly leaps like a frog. Ziggy is also known to fart when she's über excited. She is unsure of how to be part of a herd, and desperately wants to be, so often gets bullied and rejected by other horses. One way to make her feel better though is to offer her an apple, she might cover you in juice, but she will love you forever.
Caution Around: Her feet and if any other horse spooks, don't expect this girl to stick around.

The History
Basic History: Ziggy was purchased from an auction as a weanling, along with her brother (they aren't really siblings but they have been together since the auction) Zagg, and was raised by Mórríghan with the most gentle handling and was introduced to showing at a very early age as Mórríghan pretty much lived in the show circuit. Once the filly was old enough (three years), she was introduced to the saddle gently and her owner never had any problems and she was trained for pleasure hunt and park shows. However, the problems started when a friend suggested a trainer who brought out the best in gaited horses and Mórríghan didn't ask for references before she sent her babies to the man for training. When it was time for her to collect her horses though, the mare was no longer her gentle carefree self and they had a battle to get her out of the stall and into the float. When they were home, the problems just got worse; Ziggy was touchy about having her feet and legs handled, she lost her beautiful carriage and always walked as though she was walking on hot coals. This went on for a couple of weeks until Mórríghan called her friend Demeter and asked the vet if she could help undo what the trainer had done.

Personality: Zagg is your serious, always working at his hardest under saddle horse. He gets frustrated easily, when he thinks he doesn't learn things enough, which makes him easy to train when it's explained right, but also tends to force shorter sessions. The one thing that he always enjoys, the best way to get him to relax after a hard session, is a bath. He loves baths, honestly loves them. He can fall asleep anywhere, anytime, otherwise, but if you're bathing him, he'll be awake and enjoy every minute of it. He's a very friendly horse, whenever anyone enters his pasture, he'll come visit with them, although he might leave if you don't have any treats for him (Especially corn, but scratches work too). One quirk is that he will kick out at any horse that's too close behind him, even Zig.

Personality: Jester is a very good school master as he really has been there and done that, so would be a great riding school mount or the mount for a novice adult rider. He is known to get bored if being cooped up in one place (stall, horse box, small yard) so always needs something to keep him thinking. In the pasture with others he can seem to be a snob as he won't play with the other horses, choosing to stay out of their games and eat in peace. He has perfect ground manners and loves being groomed. If you have peppermints, he will be your friend forever!

The History
What we Know: Jester's life stared really well. He was left with her dam (while being handled daily) until he was happily grazing by himself (they didn't forcefully weaned him). Things started changing however once his schooling had finished and he started her showing career. The vet wasn't sure whether it was his tight schedule or the feed he was given, but Jester started to constantly tie-up and in the winter months he couldn't be worked as he would lose weight rapidly and muscle tone with it.

The Personality
Personality: This is the most uncoordinated horse you will ever meet, and even though she knows what to do, it's done in a clumsy way as though she has no idea where her feet are going. She is very vocal and always in your business, always wanting to know what you are doing. If in the wild, she would be the alpha mare and bullies everyone to prove it, even humans as she doesn't show one iota of respect toward them (though this can be trained out of horses). If she can smell that you have peppermints on you, she will find them and take them any way she can.
Caution Around:Things that are there now that weren't there before, Ooooooo, spooky!

The History
What we know: This beauty was born in a well-known stud and was carefully handled from birth. This continued until she was started at the age of two and then sold at three. She was purchased by a riding barn, in this barn however, all of the horses were treated like machines. They lived in their stalls pretty much 24/7, they were handled enough to groom them and put the tack on, handed to their rider, ridden in a lesson for an hour or more before being handed back to their groom - without even as much as a word of praise by their rider - and then groomed again before being put back in their stall. This continued for a few years until Iskierka collapsed while tied up at the truck at a show - the vet cleared her as healthy though once she regained her feet and she was still ridden in all her classes. After it happened at a couple more shows and then it had been brought to the attention of the owner that she was also doing it at home, she was marked as a waste of space and was quickly sent off to a auction. Since it seemed that she collapsed when he head was touched, she was sold off as being head shy - the owners best chance of prospective buyers not touching her head so that if she was going to collapse again it would be at her new home. After all, the barn's onsite veterinarian had given the mare a clean bill of health.

BARQUE

Personality: If he were a human, Barque would be a computer geek. He takes life so seriously, and is known to throw a tantrum if he can't learn things fast enough - by his standards, not the humans. In the barn, he can be seen leaning over his door with his lip pulled up (flehmen response), as he catches every scent around him. In the pasture he's the class clown and has to be in the middle of everything and urging the other horses to play with him. He loves affection and even while out in the pasture will walk straight up to people to get a pat. Loves Cucumber slices

The History
WHat we know: Barque was born in the Budweiser barn. However, this information is keep very hush hush, as even with his perfect looks, he never made it to the wagon pulling stage. While mucking around in the field with the other colts he fell and injured his back. He still went onto a life of pulling carts though, making his back even worse and along with a sore back he developed other problems. Now, no matter what you try to do with him, he seems to be saying, "Don't even try to do that." He pins his ears and swishes his tail whenever anyone approaches, and seems unhappy most of the time.

Personality: This little horse always looks after number one, if she feels that she would be safer without her human, then she will have no problem with getting rid of said human. Due to her cautious personality, she hates being tied up, she'll pull back and throw her head around (so make sure you only wrap her rope around things rather than tying). Although cautious, if a person approaches her with treats (especially apple) she'll love you long time.
Caution Around: Spurs, don't use them on me or I'll go haywire!

The History
What we know: Hit by a car, bad injuries (lacerations on her legs and side possibly broken nose, broken dock, bruised hip and shoulder). The people that hit her drive off, leaving her to die on the side of the road and her owners have never stepped forward. (Makes one wonder if they are one and the same?)

Personality: Rogue could be described as being bipolar: One minute she plodding along happily, the next her rider's on the ground! She has no problem showing her free spirit in the arena, although she is great with other horses riding with her - as long as she knows they are there - she is known for bucking after going over jumps. She is often bullied by other horses as she's such an extrovert and often forgets herd hierarchy. She doesn't like being bridled though so make sure she isn't tied up. If you have apples though, all is forgiven

The History
What we know: Rogue was born in a backyard breeding establishment, and her training was just as professional - everything was a little slap dash to start off with and the real training began when she went to her first home. Her first home was a showing barn and while out on a hack with some of the older horses and ponies, she showed her knack for jumping anything and her training when into turning her into an eventer (as she already had the nice movement for dressage). Horror happened one night and a fire spread through the barn. Although rescued from her stall, Rogue was never the same afterwards; the slightest movement caused the mare to jump and then as time went on, even going from in the barn to the outdoors and then returning to the barn became a problem, she would have to be blindfolded to get her onto the float and cross country became a nightmare as it seemed the slightest shadow would freak the pony out.

Caution Around: Don't let her away with anything, she already has enough bad habits, so let's not encourage them.

What we know: Not a lot. What Narcissus needs is lots of TLC. Someone who is willing to slowly earn his trust, and help him get back the condition he has lost, and a reminder that spending time with people is fun, as is life.
