The Personality
Personality: Quiet and bombproof, this aging gentleman has just about seen and done it all. Not much can rattle him, and because of his size he is not the fastest mover in the world. He mostly enjoys work on the flat, but if properly warmed up and taken over a few practice jumps he is a willing and hard working hunter as well. On the flat, he is focused and easy-going, not letting other horses or things around him distract him. Because of his time as a lesson horse, aids given to him need to be given properly otherwise he will not respond to them. He is trained to drive, and enjoys it immensely, however he seems to like being under saddle just a little bit more.
Caution Around: He has a history of colic, so his diet and eating schedule needs to be carefully maintained
The History
Basic History: Born and raised in the French countryside, the chestnut gelding was bred for and used mostly as a halter and driving horse. The farm who bred him decided after a few failed halter shows that he was not the best stock for breeding and had him gelded. The owners were fond of his personality however, and continued to show him anyway, using him as a lesson mount for younger and inexperienced riders. He was also trained under saddle after he was gelded, and was used as a pleasure horse by the owner's wife. He contracted colic several times, however was able to overcome them without surgery. This was attributed to his age, and so the farm decided regretfully to sell him, as they didn't have any space for him on the farm to simply retire. This was when Erik came along and purchased him as a 'sorry we have to leave France' present for Meg. He felt the horse's gentle giant nature would be good for her, and hoped a steady minded horse would keep her out of trouble in the new country. He had a bit of horse knowledge, and discovered quickly that the horse's colic was actually caused by his diet, not his age. Meg instantly fell in love with the large gelding, and became further excited when her mother informed her that she would be taking him to an equine academy, Blue Ridge. Meg nicknamed him 'Normy', because of his breed, the Norman Cob. However Erik was the one to give the gelding his show name, which translates to "Love Always"
