Personality>> Isadora – or Dora – is a seven year-old OTTB mare. Coming from a few years of inconsistency, she has the tendency to be “hot” and pushy, but after a year and a half of work from Hadley, the mare has calmed down. She does still spook quite a bit, but is learning and coming along. She enjoys rolling after being inside and running a good couple of laps around the pasture. She does not do well being stalled up for days on end, even if it is necessary, and will make a mess of her stall from pacing. She loves to learn and typically never throws a fit unless spooked by something, and then she typically bolts, bucks, or rears…or all three. Isadora’s ground manners have come a long way, but she sometimes still needs a firm hand. This mare seems to like jumping and perks up (in a good way) when trail riding, even if she’s a bit timid. She does not like ponies, nor does she do well around them, for whatever reason.
Caution Around>> loud noises such as tractors
Basic History>> Isadora came to Hadley from an auction. According to her papers, she was raced on the track from the age of three until she was four, and the rest is assumed that the mare was sent to another home for repurposing. With Hadley riding her, Hadley and her mom figured that Isadora had been trained for Hunter Under Saddle and began to work from there. Hadley began to work on her every day, focusing on lunging, ground manners, and then riding. When it came to riding, Hadley really put an emphasis on getting Isadora onto the bit, making her softer, bending and stretching, and most of all, control. Isadora has a tendency to be heavy in the front and on the hands and will sometimes get “chargy”. Once they got a good handle on this sort of thing, Hadley began to work Isadora on short trails with her mom, sometimes just walking on foot with her; she also started working her over ground poles, small cross rails, and low fences. Even though Isadora was still spooky and hot, she began to calm down and really enjoy her job working over fences.
